chrono24 is the best place to purchase i have found once you narrow down your search. tons of parameters to search by. Condition, w/ box and papers, location, dial color, metals, etc...

do not exclude yourself from a nice used watch. you can save a lot of money and still get a year or two warranty from the shop depending.

The Submariner is a classic. But taste is subjective. If you don't like it, don't spend $8k+ to get one. Rolex is a symbol of luxury. But there are certainly a lot of "try hards" out there who see Rolex as the ONLY symbol of luxury.

Omega is a fine brand that has been around for a long time. It also has great brand recognition. Most important thing is that YOU have to like the watch and not care about what other people think.

With the 50th anniversary coming up, I'd love to pick up the Omega "moonwatch". However, my wife would prefer to go to Europe...so the moonwatch will be put on the backburner for a bit.

I generally laugh at people with "flashy" watches as well.

People who are serious about watches are wearing something that you've never heard of and won't notice even though they cost five times more than the "flashy" ones you're talking about.

^That's a $25k wristwatch^

I have been wearing this Seiko daily for last 3 years. The Omega is significantly more expensive but so to is the quality and craftsmanship in my opinion

That Seiko is a good example.

I can understand if the Omega watch looks better than the Seiko because it's a higher quality, but I don't see any difference in the picture.

In 10 years I’ll bring this watch and you bring the 4 iPhones you purchased and we can discuss which was the better purchase.

In 20 years I’ll hand down my watch, your phones will be in a landfill.

Broke mods a forum that may point you to some pre-owned Seamasters from reputable collectors.

Omega watch forum is a good place to start, too.

Why is it so hard for you to avoid a thread that asks the opinion of watch enthusiasts?

Clearly you aren’t one.

The sad part is you don’t realize how stupid you sound.

Meh, people can spend their money how they choose (as long as I don't have to pick up the tab for the necessities they can't pay for because the blew their money on non-essential luxuries.)

For instance, one might laugh at people who have a $50k+ pickup truck. But, that's their money. (Metaphorically speaking) while one's Rolex Daytona may not impress you. Your F-250 King Ranch does nothing for them.

To the OP, if you like the watch, can afford it without harm to your family, and it makes you happy, get it! Don't worry about what others may or may not think.

high of a demand

It is a supply/demand issue...SS professional models are (and have been for quite a while) in very high demand. Most dealers are going to have a call list on Subs/SeaDwellers, Daytonas, and GMT's - and you will not see more than one of a specific model of these in a store at a given time. You for sure aren't going to cold call from out of town and be able to get one. Different ballgame with less in-demand models such as DateJusts, Oyster Perpetuals, gold/steel pieces, precious metal pieces - walk in and walk out with one of pretty much what you want.

Now if it is in the case and not the safe, you can probably walk into a store and buy one, but that is a pretty big if, and it is probably not going to be there long.

With regards to the current Submariners (and GMT's) I don't love the super case and maxi dial - I prefer the slimmer lugs, smaller markers and more slender hands of the pre 2008 5 digit models, but that is purely preference. Case is the same size, but the watch wears bigger for sure. Ceramic bezel and glide-lock clasp on the Submariner is a huge selling point though.

I was fortunate enough to receive a vintage omega from my grandfather. It’s a 1964 seamaster, works like a charm and looks sharp. I don’t deserve the watch at all but am very grateful for it.

I enjoy his "muh iPhone" rhetoric.

Pops 19's 1962 Seamaster still goes for about $1K today.

I do truly love the iPhone comments - what is that 800-1K phone going to be worth in 30 years?

Fair enough, but not all can be judged solely by the outward appearance.

Several years ago, I bought a Martin Acousic guitar. My friend bought a Yahama. They look alike in pictures but that’s where the similarities stop. Feel and performance nods decidingly in favor of the Martin. It’s real wood, American hand made, and will sound better with age.

The difference between them and the watches in question is similar. One is cheaply mass produced to look like the higher quality professional model.

To each his own... but I prefer quality.

I got really into the different design styles when I was looking for my watch 5 years ago. After exhaustingly searching I just picked what looked best to me. I wear it everyday. I’d never think to buy a watch on value or provenance, or to make a statement...though I like some watches that would cover those bases. Still, I’m more drawn to design details over anything else.

I bought that exact watch but with the SS band a few months ago. I’ve only grown to love it more over time.
