Flooding of homes and vehicles after a 54-inch transmission line water main ruptured due to extreme cold in a Southwest Detroit neighborhood. The first emergency call came in at 2 a.m. on Monday, with hundreds of people stranded in their homes as residents scrambled to find shelter amid flooding and rising waters. The water department director estimated that between 150 to 200 homes were affected, causing significant property damage. Emergency responders, including members of the Downriver Dive Team, rescued 54 adults, 22 children, and 12 pets. The mayor assured that the city would cover the damages for all those affected.

That is crazy, I doubt they have a chapter for that in the disaster response handbook.

I appreciate the effort of the car owner that lifted his windshield wipers away from the windshield before going in for the night. Well done sir. Your wipers are not stuck to the windshield!

It hasn't been as bad here in Louisville (typical Ohio River flooding) but Eastern Kentucky got hit again with flooding last weekend and are now dealing with freezing temperatures with multiple rounds of snow. 12 deaths so far. It's awful.

As sad as that is at least it's not a man-made problem like in Detroit

I wonder how the main busted but I am willing to bet incompetence comes into play

Bullets can ricochet off of ice. Might be some extra bystanders harmed
