I think there's a lot more to this story

Regardless of this this sexuality or what he may have thought his sexuality was. The fact still remains that a child took his own life. I cannot imagine the anguish he must have felt. No child should feel that. Fricking heartbreaking.

100% agree here.

I have a few friends that are gay and they have all told me that they knew they were gay at a very young age. I guess we wouldn’t understand it unless we were in their shoes.

If the story is as reported, that is sad. At 9, I think, if a kid knows what gay is and they are gay, they are able to connect the dots.

But kids are cruel. Without writing a wall of text, I know someone who dealt with some kids being extremely cruel to this other kid because his mom was gay. Even with people keeping an eye on things, those kids would find every opportunity to be mean to the kid. And it was something that he at least had to hear about every day. He eventually went to another school, but kids can be really hard on a kid who isn't liked, for whatever reason.

And in today's world it stays with them on social media, so it's all the time. Not sure if this was the case here, but if a kid feels like they are alone and every day they wake up, they know it's going to be another day or being bullied, being singled out, that can really put someone in a dark place.

The mom probably should have not encouraged him to not tell people at school. I am sure she didn't want him to think there was something wrong with who was, but you also have to be realistic.

Unfortunately for some boys, their affinity will be for females, such as the little boy in the OP, and their later sexual feelings will be for males.
This kid never got to "later." You don't know what would have happened after puberty. Seems the parent was pushing this notion that he was set for life before real testosterone began flowing.

Did something in your upbringing make you a argumentative jackass?

How does a kid in the 3rd-4th grade know they are gay?

How is that even a topic in a 3rd graders life, that's serious enough to warrant suicide? How much conversation had he had to even know to come out as gay?

Mindboggling

I can say that there is no evidence that it can be altered but that there are a lot of dead kids that proves it can't be.

I don't know the first thing about raising kids or being gay. The first thing I thought was..Why didn't the mother have a talk with him...Explain that everybody will not understand and maybe to not be so open about his gayness. Did she not think that he would be tortured if he talked about being gay?

Thinking about it, I knew at an early age that big titties were good. Of course I had a brother 10 years older than I was who use to expose me to a bunch of shite he wasn't supposed to, but I got in trouble one time, in elementary school for telling a girl she can't wear a bra because her boobies were not big yet.

What a bizarre reaction to the boy saying "I'm gay". No questions whatsoever? Great job mom.

quote:

Jamel Myles just started fourth grade last Monday and was eager to open up to his peers after coming out as gay to his mom over the summer. “And he looked so scared when he told me. He was like, ‘Mom I’m gay,’” Leia Pierce told KDVR-TV. “And I thought he was playing, so I looked back because I was driving, and he was all curled up, so scared. And I said, ‘I still love you.’”

Really mom? Mom is retarded.

quote:

Hoping to get the same support from his peers, Jamel went to school ready to share. “He was gonna tell people he’s gay because he’s proud of himself,” his mom said. Unfortunately, his classmates were not as accepting as his mother; she says he experienced bullying, which led to his suicide.

Where's moms role in this? How is your son on the edge of suicide and you have no idea? Why doesn't mom look in the mirror at herself?

quote:

“Four days is all it took at school. I could just imagine what they said to him,” Pierce said. “My son told my oldest daughter the kids at school told him to kill himself. I’m just sad he didn’t come to me.”

I don't think anyone here is arguing otherwise. I have a child that was 9 years old 2 years ago.

She played with little pets (plastic animals) and worried about whether her dad was going to take her bike riding or fishing the next weekend. She's a very mature kid and sexuality wasn't in the picture at all at that age.

I hate that now in 6th grade boys are starting to take notice of her. I wish we would have all kept thinking girls were stupid until about 17.

Agree with this. When dealing with my own children I consider how things are. Not how things should be. As much as I wish it wasn't this way, the fact is little kids are assholes, and some things are better off keeping to yourself at that age.

I'm not saying altered through therapy, rather through natural maturation and puberty.

I’ve seen many 2 kids, one boy and one girl from birth display gay tendencies. These kid come from decent people and lived very privileged lives. Sexually is not a learned existence.

This is absolutely a fact. I am not going to write a wall of text to prove my point, so I will just say.. I know someone whose son, you could tell at an early age, he was likely going to be gay.. He is in HS know and it's pretty much just assumed he is at this point. I think it's one of those "we know and we know you know we know. We love you" type things.. It isn't something that has been discussed in detail, but like I said, they are on the same page/
