The child was experiencing gender affinity. It has nothing to do with sexuality. Every child undergoes this time of enlightenment, usually between 8 and 12, when he or she begins to experience the predetermined orientation that will dictate the remainder of their lives.
Sadly, his orientation didn't match his physical body. The brutal nature of our society, perhaps of all societies, was too much for such a sensitive little kid. He saw only one alternative to his pain and took it. It's all too common, I'm afraid.

When I was 9 I didn't have a concept of sex but I knew I liked girls. No reason to doubt a little boy could feel that way about boys.

The danger with gays is that their identity can be overly defined by their sexuality. That is also the lense the use to view every one else and the kids will pick up on it as well. In much the same way as a parent wanting a child baseball prodigy and pushing their kids too far in sports, so too can homosexuals push their kids into a sexual box way before its healthy.
My kid is 10. He is completely asexual. I doubt he can even fathom “lust” or “sex appeal”.

Right. It's one thing to get butterflies in your stomach around certain other boys and girls. It's quite another for a nine year old to have the emotional acumen to decide this is who they'll always be and announce it to his peers. I'm not questioning his sexuality. I just doubt that deciding to come out in such a public way is a conclusion that he 100% arrived at on his own.

According to you God is in charge. Think of this. Adam and Eve were perfect and born in the likeness of God. People back then lived for hundreds of years. Now there are genetic changes, cell mutation producing disease and decreasing our lifespan. What makes you think that this genetic changes couldn’t happen to ones sexually?
