We would start next door at the bounty, head to neos, and usually end up in fat city at Kenny's or aliens. Usually both

I could go on a deep dive here but don’t want to incriminate myself.

there was a definite dichotomy in the bar/club scene in the 80s between the college crowd (Loyola/Tulane) and the locals. I didn’t grow up in NOLA so I was part of the former, but I had plenty of friends in the latter.
a typical night out (when I wasn’t working at shanahans) was quills, Bruno’s or shanahans, fat Harry’s, miss maes. If it went later we went to the dungeon. Wednesday was que sera and the Mayfair.
If we wanted to chase the catholic school girls we went to 4141 or AT2s. If we were trying to lay low we went to madigans or cafe banquette. If we were trying to get alcohol poisoning we went to nicks or port o’call.
the only time we went to west end or fat city was to buy drugs or if a local girl dragged us there.

Anyone else remember how badass The Gold Mine in the quarter and Mudbugs in Gretna were back in the day?
there was a 50s-60s themed joint in Metry back then that was like shooting fish in a barrel, can never remember the name

even inside shanahans there was a Mendoza line…the half walls in the back that hid the pool tables. The place would be packed with two different crowds…yats in the back playing pool and drinking pitchers, and college kids in the front drinking hiballs and canned beer. The mount carmel charmers learned quickly that they could get all the amaretto sours they could drink if they hung out up front.
fights generally started back by the pool tables…once out in the parking lot sgt lampard usually let it play out

Took some out of town college friends to Benny's one night 1990 Mardi Gras. Blew their minds.

What a hole! I spent a few nights at Benny's. Great music with a Kentwood 5 gal jug for a tip jar.
If you knew which negro to ask, you could buy drugs about 10' from the NOPD cop "working" detail out front. At the time, the "code" phrase was "How's life in the fire world?"

on Claiborne/Jefferson right at the parish line there was an awesome pool hall, that place was sketchy as hell but for the brave it was a good time. I don’t remember what it was called

Were you ever in The Crystal when it got raided? You could probably have a fun month with all the shite that got dropped on the dance floor.
Yes. I was also there about 15 minutes after Eddie Vedder and that Cleveland Indians player punched a bouncer. (Something like that, I don't remember the details). We didn't see any of it but it was the talk of the club when we got there.
My friend also gave 2 exctasy tabe to Scotty Weiland from STP at the Crystal. I didn't speak to him though.

Sports Palace! When I worked night shift was one of the few places you could get a drink on Monday mornings.

Early 80s. LaBoucherie in the quarter nursing students loved to dance there. Awesome time

My dad ran a bookmaking operation out of there in the late 60s and into the 70s.

Scary how many places of these I was in, and lived to tell about it. No place for Tiger Band nerds. I blame being married to a Chalmation at the time for being led astray.
