I see to remember reading somewhere that the geography and makeup of the seabed crust isn't really conducive to tsunamis like the Rim of Fire is. Storm surges are worse than tsunamis in the Gulf and it would take an extraordinary event to really get the Gulf to inundate tsunami-style.

I grew up hearing stories about this. My dad was on the Amite river when it happened. Reports of all the water being pulled put of the river and such.

We went on vacation there in like 1985 when I was a kid. It was great.
I think the tourism money is mostly gone now in Acapulco. It's cartel country now. They regularly have around 1000 murders a year now. It's not some huge city either.
