Both of yall are off. It’s 2.5. 7 to 8 would be 32x

We were just at Grand Cayman on Tuesday snorkeling. Hopefully the damage isn't bad.

A gulf coast tsunami warning would be the cherry on top of this year already.

10 inches of snow. 81 degrees a week later. Now a tsunami.

fricking Google AI was wrong then:

A Richter scale 8 earthquake is significantly more powerful than a 7.6 earthquake, releasing roughly 32 times more energy; essentially, for every whole number increase on the Richter scale, the energy released increases exponentially, meaning an 8 magnitude earthquake is much more destructive than a 7.6 magnitude earthquake.

It’s every whole number is 32x stronger. Google AI can suck it!

They hardly felt in on grand cayman. 2.2 on the island. 8.0 was 202 km away.

Only time in my life I’ve experienced an earthquake was a couple weeks ago when I was in Massachusetts for work and there was a 3.8 there. It literally felt like the ground dropped a couple inches twice and the shaking lasted about ten seconds. It was interesting to say the least but a 7.6? I can’t imagine how terrifying that must be.

No damage anywhere in the Caymans to speak of. Some shaking felt.

Went down to the dock to watch the tsunami.

Nothing happened.

We've had a few 4.0+ in Oklahoma in recent years.

Some of them are the rolling type that you can hear coming before you feel them. Some of them are a jolt that feels like something crashed into the foundation below your feet.

Never had any damage where I live, though.

This seems like a bad place to watch a tsunami.

Since 90% of the Cayman Islands sits 8 feet or less above sea level it should be mostly gone by now. Makes me think t he reports are a lie. A minor Tsunami would have washed it away.
