US Embassy Security Bulletin (March 8)
Security Bulletin from March 8.
Location: Meskel Square in Addis Ababa and the Oromia Region
Event: The U.S. Embassy is aware of calls for a protest to be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Meskel Square. It is unknown whether the protest has been or will be approved by Ethiopian authorities. Protests have already occurred in many parts of the Oromia region since March 6, and additional protests may materialize.
U.S. Embassy personnel are advised to avoid Meskel Square and limit movement around Addis Ababa on Sunday, March 10. U.S. Government travelers have been advised not to arrive or depart Bole International Airport on Sunday, March 10, and U.S. Embassy personnel are also temporarily prohibited from traveling to Oromia.
Followed up by bulletin from March 9.
Location: Addis Ababa

Apparently there was some concern.

I can assure you business class was better than US carrier business class.
I've read economy class can be pretty wild though, but that's true for any economy class heading to a relatively poor destination.
Oh I wasn't comparing the cabins and the inside experience. I don't doubt that. I am just saying I have a hard time believing their pilots, maintenance, etc. are close to 1st world airlines.

fleet bulletin warning of the potential problem and how to address it. This is in addition to the mcas training.
That bulletin wad BS. It said if you have an uncommanded pitch down with one or more of about 10 other things, then follow the checklist for a runaway stabilizer. The Lion Air guys were fighting the airplane all the way to the water and would not have been messing with a checklist. I talked to a couple of 737 drivers last week and they had no idea about that bulletin. The only training most 737 pilots have on the MAX is a 4 hour computer based "differences" training.

Well shame on them. I even know about the bulletin and I am not a pilot. As a 737 "driver", how could you not be following the story of a 737 crash and not know about the bulletin?
Good grief, I hope you are either joking or at least willing to name these pilots so I do not get on their planes.

What is odd is my parents are literally world travelers with a published book on traveling. They have been to all 7 continents and hundreds of countries. They have had countless articles written on their traveling yet I haven’t partaken yet abroad.

Just got an email from work stating that we had 2 co-workers on the flight. Not that I've ever met them or have any idea who they were, but still very sad.

From their website, their maintenance division has 1800 employees, are capable of perform heavy maintenance on Boeing planes, and engine overhauls on selected engines, their facilities look as good as any in the U.S. I am sure they are trained by Boeing in the same classes as U.S. maintenance workers.

Yep. I remember reading on this very forum about 3 or 4 years ago that Boeing isn’t the same company it used to be.
Sounds like they rolled the dice based on some bean counter advice and they deserve everything that’s coming to them and more.

or if you are flying Malaysian airlines.
Malaysia Airlines lost 2 777 aircraft months apart by EXTREMELY unlikely events. One was almost certainly sabotaged by a flight deck crew member, and the other was shot down by a missile fired by modern Neanderthals.
It's a very unfortunate thing that the airline had to endure. Neither accident was due to poor training, or mechanical issues, imo. Malaysia is still recovering, but many airlines of that size would not have.

Yep, they somehow rolled snake eyes twice. I can *maybe* entertain the idea that they (and every other carrier) shouldn’t have been flying over the Russia/Ukraine bullshite, but MH 370 is one of the most bizarre things to happen in aviation history.
