Sounds to me that BMW is a shite car and people spend more time at the shop with it then driving it

I knew a few people who bought BMWs and they couldn’t give the car away when they were ready to get the hell out of that monthly payment and bullshite maintenance on it.

No thanks.

Terrible resale value once they’re out of warranty.

Go look at prices of used 7 series sedans.

The seven series is a time bomb. Absolutely worthless after 100k!

The fckin harmonic balancer "failed." I've never even heard of that happening on a car.

Ive heard of it on classic cars where the rubber piece of the balancer dry rots. But that normally gets replaced when you rebuild. Never heard of it on a new vehicle.

Yeah, you can zing one through the fender on a 50 year old small block if you spin it to 7 grand.

I have seen this happen.

I've had 2 BMWs and will never buy another one. They're unreliable piles of plastic that are fun to drive.

Had an E46 years ago.

Had to replace most of the cooling system at 75k. (The expansion tank is a fabulous design...Plastic pressure vessel that is rectangular. WTF?)

Was considered normal.

My first thought was; "People bitch about GM while driving this shite?"

Guess they had a shortage of 5/8" sockets and personnel who know the basics. "

How about you? Do you have a 5/8 socket and the know how?

It's all dealerships. They pay flat rate. I get it from their end, but it doesn't really work when the local shop down the road is paying hourly for the same you would make on a good day

From what I have seen guys that work make bank on flat rate.

Example from years ago; Dodge paid 8 hours to change the trans in their minivans. A lot of those trannies needed changed. One guy at the local Dodge dealer did nothing but change trannies.

Two every day. One before lunch and one after. He was doing pretty well.

I doubt they have lowered the rates as the dealer isn't looking to take a cut to his revenue.

I have a small shop I use bec they are fantastic mechanics. And very honest. My SIL called to make an appt to get her vehicle looked at and they told her it would be 3 weeks. I've heard this same thing from friends who use other places. It's not just the dealer.

Neighbor got tired of dealing with Harris. Goes to BMW dealer in Lafayette. Over an hour further away.

The real answer.

Toyota.

Seriously.
1) I been a diesel tech since 1984.
Done other things, but used my experience to open a shop and then went into owning some outdoor power shops. Easier to train mechanics.
2) In California they had a great vocational system to learn the basics back then.

Today, it hard to find trained mechanics or even people willing to learn.

Right now I am retired. I came out of retirement to help to train a young adult who is mentally handicap work on diesel trucks. Kid catches on well, just socially awkward and has to live in a group home. Tech wise the kids learning fast. I am stepping back more and more as his work getting better.

Just like everyone else it is hard to find workers.
Hard to find trained workers.
There is a lack of solid schools that give people training especially in Louisiana. When a dealer or shop puts training into them they leave.

A few things.
A car dealership makes a bunch in the shop. The money is in the service. Since most folks know little to nothing about automobiles, husbands and wives, dealerships get the service calls. Like anything else, good Dr’s, Lawyers and Mechanics are a plus to have on your side.
Having a number of friends and relatives in the new car industry, one told me, the lease programs, for him are the best. They get back a 1,2,3 or 4 year old car, low mileage, good shape, they use a mechanic to certify, get it in the lot for sale, can’t lose. Right now too many are hanging on to car longer, but good cars are giving you up to an beyond 200,000 miles.

Wedge Kyes has been in business for over 50 years, I know, I did machinist work on many of his engines parts way back when. One of the best it town.
Having been in that trade in my early years, I still talk with a number of those folks.
As for Audi, my friend bought one, didn’t listen to me. His wife, no pictures, said she had brought it in for service. They couldn’t find the problem, I went to a guy I know, 10 minutes later, he says, broken motor mount.
You do know, Audi will stop making gas cars in 2030? All EV.
The best mechanic in BTR, has a small shop off of Airline Hwy.
Lucky for me, I drive a Toyota, I can get in and out quickly. I had work done, last week, no charge, but I’m good friends with the service manager in Tx.
Parts are a problem, 6-8 months on some.
It’s not getting any better.

It will only get worse. Too much tech in new cars. A lot of stuff will become proprietary and only the dealer can work on it due to the computer parts.

5-7 days with 72 cars doesn’t seem that bad tbh

I had a farm truck at the Ram dealership for almost a year before I got it back
