Good area to do this in? I dont think so!

There’s a huge renovation underway near downtown Baton Rouge that promises to bring non-stop entertainment to the center of the city. It’s happening inside what many people remember as “the old Entergy building” on Government Street near the railroad tracks.

quote:

Renderings for the project depict a 33,000 square foot entertainment venue with a full service bar and kitchen, a large gathering area, restaurants, and retail space. Megan Rook is the entertainment sales manager. “We are kind of bridging Mid City and the downtown area. We are really hoping to draw a lot of the young business people from downtown after work, on the weekends, and people with families,” Rook said.

You know there is a super ghetto neighborhood across the street I thought about buying some property in there just to see what happens. The lots were like 10K

It's not the best area, but it's not the worst either.

If they could successfully bridge the area between mid city and downtown like they are saying, it would go a long way to eventually gentrifying the entire area between downtown, LSU, and the garden district.

People complain about BR having nothing to do, downtown sucks, foods not good, etc.

Someone tries to improve BR.

They immediately get shite on. This won’t work, bad idea, BR sucks, and so on.

Everything between I-110 and 19th St. or so is pretty bad. Also has a lot of potential due to location.

Most of the newer development in Mid-City/Downtown has had some buffer from the bad parts. This one is surrounded on 3 sides by it. I'm interested to see how it works out. Wishing for the best!

The only way this works, at least initially, is if they fence the parking lot and have off duty police controlling the entrance. There will have to be enough free parking so that everyone going there can use the lot. If they do that, it will be fine.

If they don’t, cars will get broken into constantly and eventually a patron will get robbed or shot/killed. Then the place will tank.

We could improve BR by burning down everything North of Florida Blvd.

This is right down there street from the Greyhound Bus Station, a shutdown Popeye's (where the homeless shoot up), St. Vincent De Paul, and a bread bakery that gives out free bread. The amount of drunks and crack heads is heavily concentrated in a 500 yard radius of the location.

I'm glad they are adding some entertainment options but who ever picked that location must be from out of town or naive about that area.

I'm guessing they have other parties interested in buying a large swath of the ghetto.
