I don’t know why people continue to do this shite in BR no matter the location. They never seem to pan out here.

Examples?

I always laugh about people saying some area around downtown BR is bad, they won't go, and yet these same folks will crawl around F&M's at 4 am or other New Orleans haunts in worse neighborhoods.

Good area to do this in? I dont think so!

It's two blocks from the Garden District. There are some less than desirable areas right there but it isn't exactly dangerous. Nevertheless, that area isn't going to improve unless someone does something about it. They're trying to do so and as a property owner in the GD i'm glad they are. It can be a bridge from Mid-City/Garden District to Downtown if it works. All of the properties across the street from it on Government are up for sale or have recently sold.

Considering that I’ve usually seen it packed during Friday and Saturday nights, that’s a horrible example.

You got an upvote for knowledge of the area, optimism in the city that is flawed, but good city and not being racist because black people live there.

I work a job that sees many homes and population in this parish. From near million dollar homes to impoverished shotgun shacks. This area has potential to be great and needs improvement. This plan might work.

I feel like the negative comments came from people who have work/ school/ grew up there relations to Baton Rouge but don't actually live here.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out...if they actually build it.

While there obviously is some new development (some might say gentrification) taking place on Gov. St., that particular area is mostly dilapidated ghetto. All of the new restaurants, stores, etc. are being build from about BRHS going East.

The plan is to build a bowling alley, bar and generally other space to hang out. Maybe I'm cynical, but it sounds like a terrific place to loiter. I hope I'm wrong, but this looks like the Quarters on Sherwood 2.0. The clientele won't be what the developers hope it will be.

The building is already there.

Quarters does a good job staying busy with the customers they are trying to attract.

This development is on a different level and focusing on a different customer base.

Is Quarters clientele all that bad? I've only been once on a Saturday during the day and it was clean and entertaining.

And I haven't heard of any fights or crimes there.

Gentrification can’t start unless people build shite. Hopefully this is a good start.
