I wash it every once and a while so it looks clean. Thats it. I couldnt imagine spending thousands on this.

What the frick is ceramic coating, anyway? Does anyone actually know what makes it “ceramic”? Lately, I have heard house paint, auto wax and automotive window tint referred to as being “ceramic.” I am beginning to believe this is just a marketing gimmick…

Which dealership was this? I haven’t heard about those kind of fees in quite a while

God damn I think you can PPF a whole car for that much.

The primary coating is a resin usually containing silicon dioxide like polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). They use a silane group to form a covalent bond with the paint because the PDMS won't bond well otherwise. As the PDMS hydrolyzes the PDMS monomers hook up and produce long chains which produces a very hard and hydrophobic coating.
The quality of the product and quality of the application (which can be tricky) varies significantly. I prefer PPF as it offers more protection but it has a higher upfront cost. PPF will pretty much eliminate most rock chips and will also protect the clear coat as well or better than ceramic coatings.
Ceramic car paint coatings aren't just a marketing scheme at least in regard to the quality ones and they technically are ceramics.

They did the same thing with me a year ago. Up’d the price 10k. They are a terrible dealership.

Over charging for things like ceramic coating or accessories is how dealerships are now hiding their market adjustments without calling them market adjustments.

How much does it cost for a new paint job?

Some people have cars that aren't just for commuting.
This is overpriced, but things like PPF and ceramic are worth it, assuming it's done properly.

Pay it. They are going broke!

Would you let me throw rocks at your ride to prove it?

I'm sure some retard will happily pay it.
What's funny is that I was going to drive over yesterday afternoon to buy the car. I insisted they send me an actual detailed price before wasting my time. They had the "price" at just a few hundred over what I asked for, but then had the $8k in BS stacked on top.
It's just such a slimy interaction. I loathe car shopping.

They gonna sneak in any and all extra cost they can to Gran as much money as possible

A Toyota dealership in Metairie is running the same scam with the add on extras. They claim almost all their cars are "in transit". If you agree to the extras you'll get one of the "in transit" cars, if you don't, the car you want will always be "in transit" and not available.
I think they are FOS on the "in transit". They have an off premises storage area where they are keeping inventory, creating an artificial shortage. I'd love to find out where they are stashing cars and take pics and blast them on social media.

They probably don’t even do it in house, as said they bring in someone that normally charges $1500 and they pay him $1200 because they can and charge you $7k. It’s a racket.
Posted on 7/16/23 at 9:57 am to DisplacedBuckeye
What are they used for? You're still "commuting" even it's not work related.
Posted on 7/16/23 at 10:01 am to GEAUXT
That's crazy. What's the advantage of getting a ceramic coating?
