They will not hesitate to break a window and clean out a rental car in broad daylight, especially when you got away from the tourist areas.
Not sure if this is still a thing, but airport rental cars all had a large sticker on the underside of the trunk lid advising not to leave anything in the car at anytime. Not the small standard type found in most rentals, these things were huge.

Hawaii is made up of three groups of peoples: white liberals who want to White Liberal everything (i.e. preach diversity while living in their own private white liberal spaces), natives who hate anyone not Polynesian, and the smallest group are military families, who are hated with a passion by the other two groups.

One of the PIs I worked for in undergrad while doing research had lived in Hawaii for 5 years completing a prior project. He routinely mentioned dumb everyone was that was native to the island and how incredibly easy it was to get into the University of Hawaii. Basically compared the college to worse than a JuCo.
So yeah I can believe this story.

That's great. Pearl Harbor is no longer strategically necessary so I say we cut them loose, grant them their independence, and let them become a third world nation and starve. If we ever get into a war again and need to use Oahu, we can easily take it back from them.
