So far, it sounds like Rome is the hardest hit. Northern Italy was largely spared.

Amatrice may be the epicenter. Reports say it is totally devastated.

I've never really looked at the plate boundaries and their interactions in that region. I had no idea Italy is over a small subduction zone.
