HOUSTON (Gray News) - Six members of a Texas family were taken to the hospital Monday after they used a charcoal grill to heat their home as a rare winter storm hit the region.
The Cy-Fair Fire Department responded to a home in Houston Monday afternoon as temperatures failed to get above freezing throughout the day.
Crews said the family had the grill running for approximately four hours. Of the six transported, two were adults and four were children. An adult and child were listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital.

I’ve heard of people doing this. I’ve also been to people’s homes for my job where they had a gas oven running with the door to the oven open to keep warm.

The blame falls squarely on one person
Greg Abbott

Isn't that how the singer from Boston killed himself?

That was at an apartment complex a few miles from me. A lot of shady stuff goes on in that area.

People lighting fires in their apartment is all Abbotts fault.
That is a scorching hot take.
Obviously their infrastructure wasn't designed for it, but I camp in those temps and survive with layers and comforters. Not ideal, but also not killing anyone.

They make kerosene heaters for indoor use. Safe if used as directed.

I’m shocked at the amount of people that don’t have basic camping equipment. Not even 15 degree Coleman bags from Walmart and a buddy heater.

Full disclosure, Nope I haven’t. I have hunted/fished/hiked in sub 32 conditions, but that was by choice. I honestly Pray for ALL that are currently affected!

The two adults passed on those genes. Darwin has not seen the last of this family.

I don’t think burning gas makes carbon monoxide
