Are y'all referring to me? I reject the title Captain moron. I haven't made any claims or accusations. I merely stated that because my child isn't sick they don't need it and based on the probability of Contracting something and the repercussions, I don't think it's worth the possible side effects of the vaccine for it.

Like I said, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

That neither makes me an unhealthy skeptic, a conspiracy theorist or a Captain moron.
Right?
Wrong?
Other?

I mean, if facts from medical professionals aren't going to convince you, what would? Obviously, you're the type of person who is so irrationally skeptical, you will find an issue with any report placed in front of you

I wouldn't say that I'm irrationally skeptical. It's just in this specific instance there's nothing compelling me to take the risk to try to prevent something that's highly unlikely anyway.

I mean, is it really that complicated? The flu shot only covers estimated strains based on when it's manufactured. At the same time, people also often confuse their immune response to the flu shot as "the shot making me sick".

I'm not saying the shot causes illness, I'm saying it appears to do very little to prevent illness.

Them greedy doctors love to shoot you up with their drugs. frick them!

What happened to letting the weak and old die? That is fricking nature and life. It isn't like those nurses are going around and rubbing their butt on the old in hopes of giving them super aids.

You shouldn't because your posts in here make you sound like a complete idiot.

You would rather your kids be at risk of getting diseases that have the potential to KILL them than getting the vaccine. Some of these diseases vaccines protect against are not something always easily treated with modern medicine. Even with modern medicine...kids still can and do die of things like measles, pertussis, etc. Things that can so easily be prevented by vaccinations.

Parents like you forget just how LIFE SAVING vaccinations are. If you have concerns about your kids getting them so close together...talk with your pediatrician about them and work with them to space them out if they are able to. You also have to consider those kids who CANNOT get vaccinated due to medical conditions. These kids already have a multitude of medical conditions that already weaken them. Getting some of these childhood diseases (measles, etc) could kill a child already immunocompromised. Those children rely on herd immunity of others. Their only hope of protection is if enough healthy children get vaccinated to prevent an outbreak/return of something that could be so easily prevented if parents would just stop being tin foil wearing morons and just frickING VACCINATE THEIR CHILDREN.

Ive worked in the ER for over 10yrs and have caught the flu ONCE. Ive never had the flu shot but treat hundreds of patients thru the flu season every year. Ill take my chances w/o the shot. I honestly think thats bullshite. Most hospitals make you wear a mask if you decline the shot. No way in hell you are injecting me with a strain that the GOV "thinks" is this years flu virus. Yea frick that

You could’ve been shedding the flu virus without having symptoms.

I like how nola001 keeps reminding us that he’s a skeptic but unwilling to actually look into the flu shot or vaccines. He’s nothing more than a conspiracy theorist who doesn’t trust the government (neither do I on many issues).

But vaccines is one thing that separates us from third world countries. Now, we live in a society where vaccines have been around a worked so long that now people are actually questioning whether these diseases are even real.

Not vaccinating your child should be treated like child abuse.

Well, that is dumb. You don't get vaccines after you get sick. That would defeat the purpose.

I just want to distance myself from nola a little bit, by saying that I am not anti-vaccine. I do think parents should have their children get traditional vaccines like MMR etc.

This thread was about the flu vaccine specifically.

Which has been proven to do very little to help citizens of this country that don't sit on the board of pharmaceutical companies.

Agreed.

We would get unvaccinated kids admitted to our unit with vague symptoms (fever, etc). Because their parents are frickING MORONS their kid now has to be subjected to MULTIPLE blood draws to check to make sure the child doesn't have some childhood disease that could easily be prevented by vaccines. Parents would get all pissy with nurses ("what do you mean you have to draw more blood"). You would have to bite your tongue and resist the temptation to remind them that it is because the parent refused vaccines that now the doctors have an even longer list of diseases to rule out.

ETA: I'm not including flu shot in that btw. I of course would strongly recommend everyone over 6 months of age to get the flu shot each year...but I won't judge a parent to be a crazy antivaxxer idiot (like that nola poster) if they decline the flu shot.

I tend to think of the anti-vaccine movement as natural selection to weed out the stupid gene.

... AND there were outbreaks everywhere? Maybe.

That's my point. This situation right now doesn't call for the risks of side affects. My children aren't in imminent danger of a life threatening sickness.
