Definitely a potential for harm. Coercion, abuse, psychological harm, family disruption. But it being illegal is mostly cultural and religious norms. Most have an innate sense of disgust for it, and that is an evolutionary adaptation. Incest does not cause genetic defects, but increases the chance a family passes a bad gene down. So it is best to diversify one’s dna.
Joseph Henrich says the Catholic Church had a great mid evil campaign against incest, and said motivations weren’t biblical. Breaking down large kin based klans made it easier for cooperation and, reduce monetary consolidation. With dispersed wealth and reduced familial power, individuals and smaller family units became more dependent on the Church for support, guidance, and protection, increasing the Church’s influence over society.

I am shocked they didn’t also find a large quantity of illegal drugs. I know all laugh at Alabama and the sister frickers that live there. But this is mother and son, had to be some drugs involved
