Why do churches feel the need to change biblical principles to make people feel better?

This past Sunday, October 30, Live Oak Methodist in Watson also voted to leave the UMC. My understanding is that the vote was 700 - 7 in favor of leaving. The local church will have to pay roughly $750,000 to keep their facilities.

My information, though, is second hand, so speak to a Live Oak member for the exact vote total and price to be paid.

When was it banned?

Not in my lifetime.

I kind of have to give the UMC credit here. They know how divisive these issues are and are willing to allow congregations to secede under reasonable terms. Yes the church has to buy the property back from the UMC but the pricing appears fair.

but they question denying committed couples the sacrament of marriage when there are questions as to the applicability of Leviticus post-Resurrection and translational ambiguity regarding homosexuality/pederasty.

Sound like morons and cowards.

Uncalled for - are you a Biblical scholar? These people are devoted to trying to decipher God’s will from what you have to admit is a pretty convoluted series of ancient texts that have been translated and curated countless times.

Methodists worried about gay marriage while Catholic priests play with little boys booty holes.

Christianity is a crazy thing.

Even at a fair price some of those congregations won't be able to swing it . I don't think the local UMC congregation here will be able to. At its peak it was about twice the size it is now and has a building complex that takes up a city block.

I can see that particularly in the middle of America....PCUSA member churches tend to be more Left and Right coast based - rather lefter leaning conclaves

No they aren't.

It's what I said.

Cowardice like theirs ruined the umc.

Or are they leaving so they can have those things?

St Timothy in Mandeville is leaving because they do not want to support those things that the progressive United Methodist Church is pushing its members to accept.

Gay marriage is one thing, I supported it then and continue to support it now. However, gay marriage is looking like it was definitely a slippery slope because the craziness has only gotten worse.

I didn’t support how it happened. Supremes creating rights and then having to spend years addressing issues not addressed like religious rights. It’s almost like they create more ways that they can tell people what to do.

Not sure govt should be regulating marriage at all. Regardless It was happening in one form or another in states across the country and don’t have a problem with state and fed govts recognizing it, but Court just issuing a decree that something that has never been a right is all of a sudden a right is messed up.

I think an amendment is needed that actually spells out judicial review and also adds additional checks on judges after confirmation.

Don't.

The wokesters demanded a vote on how to move forward. They lost. Then they refused to abide by the vote and the leadership refused to enforce the vote the wokesters demanded.

The vote is still binding but the worksters just decided they would ruin the church and the umc leadership wouldn't lift a finger to stop them.

It left the Christian's to suffer insult from its own church or leave. Then they had to pay the wokester trash for their buildings plus more.

The umc leadership is shameful.

We're at roughly 800k and part of that is for pensions etc but part is buildings which I don't understand because it was built before the United part ever came into being. I'm not sure what the traditionalist got in these abritratiom decisions. It seems very lopsided towards the rule breakers...and in FL there has to be a 2/3rds vote to leave. I laugh at the fact that all of a sudden
.. Rules have to be followed. God's rules semmed to have a "more or less guidelines" quality applied to them .. but the rules for separation are set in stone. Rules for paying to leave absolutely must be followed. If the church leadership adhered to the book of discipline like they do accounting principles...we wouldn't have this mess

In a straw poll..my church was 62% in favor of leaving. I'm not sticking around if the vote fails. I don't agree with gay ordination and I definitely don't agree with what's coming next ..and it's already starting to creep in that thought of.. The Bible is a good book.. not necessarily God's word and Then Jesus is an ideal not necessarily a saviour

I’m sorry but you don’t know what you’re talking about.

I’m recounting to you firsthand conversations with men who have studied theology, the Bible and Methodist tradition at the postdoctoral level and have chosen lives of worldly modesty when they could have easily pursued more lucrative careers.

The modern church is paying the price for the politicized handling of scripture by various popes and kings over the past 2000+ years.

Doesn’t actually exist as a church in most cases. Almost all of them should have their tax free status revoked and be forced to operate like what they really are. A social club.
