PRENTISS, Miss. (AP) - Federal, state and local authorities are investigating the discovery of multiple marijuana fields in rural Mississippi.

John Dowdy, who directs the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, says there are seven plots on about 40 acres (16 hectares) in Jefferson Davis County. They are about 60 miles (97 kilometers) southeast of Jackson. The value of the crop could be around $60 million to $70 million.

Authorities located the fields around 3 p.m. Monday and have been processing the evidence since then. One arrest had been made by Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators believe the fields could be the work of cartels, based on the sophistication of the operation.

All these people who hate cops need to stop and write these guys a thank you note. That could be marijuana that was headed to your kid. The lives that could have been ruined by that amount of pot are incalculable.

Man back in 96 as a freshman at southern miss I smoked some homegrown from south of Jackson that might still be the best bud I ever smoked!

Oh and also it’s high time to legalize marijuana.
