I'm curious how BR chooses which projects to prioritize. South Harrells Ferry was never a particularly busy road and has been four-laned for years. Lee has been a shite show for 30 years and sees 10 times as much volume yet is still 2 lanes.

I don’t know how they would widen it in several areas on Lee near Perkins. There’s maybe 20-30 feet between the houses and the road.

I'm very interested in this as well. I'm also curious how SWB will use this in regards to the St George movement.

SHF is a joke.

It looks like I10 but comes to a halt at Sherwood Forrest.

Why spend all that money for a five lane highway that dead ends?

How is this different than having law enforcement hold up traffic so church goers can get out into traffic? Or maybe downtown after events at the River Center let out? LSU sporting events? If those are legal, why would the U Club situation not be? Maybe it is somehow? I really don’t know but since you brought it up, maybe you do?

Speaking of U Club…what I don’t understand is how it is legal for the developer to continue to add more and more filings and more and more houses but only have 1 exit. If that subdivision ever had to evacuate in a hurry…it couldn’t. Lots of people would be stuck. That is a huge disaster waiting to happen and yet the developer keeps ignoring this fact and cashing in because he can.

It doesn't make a lot of sense and that intersection is awful. We live right around there but I avoid it completely on weekdays.

S. Harrell's Ferry was supposed to be an alternative to I-12. There weren't many space constraints so they went ahead and widened it along with Millerville. They are pulling Old Hammond ahead finally as well.

The Lee Drive widening project has always had staunch opponents. There isn't enough space for a 5 lane road in there without completely removing homes like their was with S Harrell's Ferry or Staring.

As it is, they are either going to have to keep it 3 lanes or divide the north bound and south bound traffic between Lee and Pickett. My money is on adding a center turn lane, curb/gutter, bike lanes, and/or sidewalks. A 2 lane road with center turn lane has proven to be safer than a 4 lane undivided road without a center turn lane.

So Lee drive will be much improved with fewer obstructions by left turning vehicles, but it won't have significantly expanded capacity.

I've always heard that when something does not make logical sense, follow the money trail.

offer to buy them out. If they refuse, take it via imminent domain. Bull doze the houses. add your lanes.

As I said previously, you're wasting time, money, and resources doing it that way. Again, they went with that same thought process on Hwy 73 in Prairieville, and it didn't solve anything with the traffic. It took them damn near 5 years to do it, too.

May as well just keep it like it is now.

There isn't much noise about it now, but there is a push to have a two lane (small cross section) bridge across the river at S. Harrell's Ferry that would intersect with 4-H Club road and continue on meet Highway 16 around Juban/1026.

S. Harrell's ferry and Millerville were widened to give that area and southern Livingston better access to the eastern side of Baton Rouge and I-12. It would also bolster the retail environment on O'Neal and provide an alternative route to the I-12 crossing at the Amite for commuters.

It is/was a good plan, but I guess Baton Rouge severely under estimated the state's ability to get a small bridge built. S. Harrell's Ferry was planned, completed, widened, and opened before a single dollar was allocated to a bridge over the Amite. 0 progress has also been made to update the street grid on the Livingston side as well.

There still isn't much state support for a bridge there right now. There's a little more chatter about a crossing at Hooper Road (upstream near Watson/Central) than before, but that's about it.

I think a series of smaller bridge crossings at S Harrell's Ferry, Hooper Road, and down at LA42 in northern AP/Southern LP would actually be a relatively inexpensive and politically viable plan to improve regional traffic flow.

#26 Jones Creek (Tiger Bend Rd to Airline)

I am quite interested in seeing how this improvement is done being that tiger bend runs parallel to airline and jones creek never touches airline.

What? They’re going to build a brand new road that goes from the Jones Creek/Tiger Bend intersection to Airline.

They intend to extend Jones Creek from its conclusion at Tiger Bend and extend it on across Jefferson to Airline Hwy. South of Woman's Hospital. It will be an entirely new road.

I’d say it’s more dangerous to drive it at 3 am due to the number of drunk arse 17 year old drivers leaving tigerland

FIFY

He was most likely talking about after the light at Jones Creek where the two lanes funnel into one. Starting around 4:30 pm it is a nightmare. You have 50 cars at a time turning left from Jones Creek and it bottle necks severely since there is no left turning lane.

Lee used to be the DUI capital of BR. The cops used to sit outside of the Caterie and wait for people to leave.

They brokered a deal with tigerland clearly. They pay the cops good money to patrol on off hours so no on duty cops touch it.

They love pulling cars over coming out of Perkins area bars tho
