Speaking of U Club…what I don’t understand is how it is legal for the developer to continue to add more and more filings and more and more houses but only have 1 exit. If that subdivision ever had to evacuate in a hurry…it couldn’t. Lots of people would be stuck. That is a huge disaster waiting to happen and yet the developer keeps ignoring this fact and cashing in because he can.

Exactly

Santa Maria is the same way.

There needs to be a law demanding an exit for every 75-100 lots

#26 Jones Creek (Tiger Bend Rd to Airline)

I am quite interested in seeing how this improvement is done being that tiger bend runs parallel to airline and jones creek never touches airline.

They are extending Jones Creek beyond Tiger Bend to intersect with Airline Highway.

There's a plan to have an outlet onto Bluebonnet eventually.

Five laning SHF from Millerville to Sherwood makes no sense.

Sherwood at 12 is a giant bottleneck already. Putting a bridge over the Amite to dead end at Sherwood where there was already gridlock made no sense.

Besides Harrells Ferry should never been cut in half. A flyover 12 to extend to Old Hammond was the ticket. Then the five lane deal and bridge could work.

Yeah ok. Sure there is.

Shouldn't another exit be mandatory once "X" number of houses are planned? That should be required BEFORE the approval for a new filing is ever granted. Otherwise...why would the developer spend the money on the second exit? He obviously doesn't have to so what's his incentive?

It is a dangerous situation. How that is continuously overlooked blows my mind.

They are building a massive neighborhood off of Jones Creek near Coursey. 400-500 houses I believe. I don't see how they'll have more than one entrance/exit.

I think a series of smaller bridge crossings at S Harrell's Ferry, Hooper Road, and down at LA42 in northern AP/Southern LP would actually be a relatively inexpensive and politically viable plan to improve regional traffic flow.

To clarify what I think would help on the LP side:
- A new surface highway (4 lane divided) south of I-12 in Livingston Parish providing an alternative to I-12.
- New bridges over the Amite at Tiger Bend, S Harrell's Ferry, and Hooper Road providing an alternative to I-12, Florida, or Magnolia Bridge.
- New surface highway in northern livingston (4 lane divided) directly connecting the Hooper Road area to highway 442 providing an alternative to I-12.

The AP side is in better shape. They already have rural street grid to work with and 3 major highways to improve (30, I-10, and Airline). I'd like to see the new bridge connect LA30 near Plaquimine Point to I-10 in WBR somewhere though.

Not if SHF also gets extended to Airline, Jefferson, and somehow Essen while also getting a bridge across the Amite to 4H Club Road.

They fixed N Harrell's Ferry between Sherwood and Old Hammond a while back. The I-12/Sherwood Interchange is just right in the middle of it all.

Weird setup. If they had to, I'm sure they could do a flyover between N and S Harrell's Ferry east of Sherwood. They never will though.

South Harrells Ferry was never a particularly busy road and has been four-laned for years.

You must have not been familiar with the afternoon traffic that was there when it was at two lanes.

I think the development as a whole was approved with two entry points. You are right that after a certain number of phases were developed, the second entrance should be constructed. That hasn't happened yet and they are still building houses back there.

Highway 30 is eventually going to be a major route. They really should not allow a traffic light every quarter mile on that stretch. You know Lexington Lake will eventually need a light too.

BTW - a total of $61 million will be spent to widen LA 30 to a 4 lane divided highway between the parish line and Gourrier Ave south of LSU. Hopefully they don't let every single development that occurs between Bluebonnet and LSU in the future have their own curb cut. It will basically be at least 4 lanes from U Club all the way to downtown within 12 years.

If a new bridge is built, I imagine the state will want to widen that section from 4 to 6 at some point in the future. Ascension and Iberville will probably have to pay some of the costs of widening it between the EBR parish line to Airline Highway in Gonzales. That could be a nice alternative route to I-10.

Where the old Pasta Garden (now Cane's) was? Yeah the traffic in that area was horrible about 15 years ago. It's a lot better now.

I'm a little miffed at the priority that was given to widening that section of SHF between Sherwood and Millerville over busier stretches like Old Hammond, but something had to be done especially if the long term plan involves a even a smaller new bridge over the Amite on the east side.

Most of the traffic seems to get off/on I-12 at Millerville.

BTW - the area around Forrest Park might have been a good spot for a new Zoo.

That's a good spot if you didn't flood. I used to live off Woodland Ridge.

Relatively easy access to I-12, Sherwood, Airline, etc. Safe and clean.

Was that you that brought up how craptastic the sidewalk project was going on Gardere?

Did you see that they are building a new highway parallel to that? Supposed to connect Staring to Nicholson and will include both sidewalks and street lights.

Yeah some people are going to get hit by a car there. It took a while for them to add sidewalks to E Boyd. Not sure what the delay is for Gardere other than the steep open ditches.

Are they doing anything with that now?

I can't believe there hasn't been more accidents on that stretch. ETA: There was something that looked like a game trail running along both sides of the road last time I drove through it. It's been a while though.
