This unfortunately occurs very frequently to kids throughout this country and parents RARELY ever do that, despite how often we hear of this potential vigilante response from parents.

This wasn't the typical case. His kid was also abducted.

And Doucet?

Innocent until proven guilty, right?

Guess not. Although they had a confession from Doucet, he was still awaiting trial. He had been convicted of nothing.

That's what I mean by "taking the law into his own hands."

I understand the father's feelings, but that was a bad precedent to set.

Jody, his sister, and brother are friends of mine. I consider Gary a friend too when I was a bartender. They are good people and I don't blame Gary one bit. I like the think I would have the balls to do what he did.

Kudos to Gary.

I wouldn't want to be Gary Plauche, knowing that I killed a person. I know quite a few people who are friends with the Plauche family in BR. Quite a few of Gary's friends say that he is a tormented soul. Also, Plauche was tipped off by the police when Doucet would arrive in BR. It never was made public when Doucet would arrive in BR. Isn't it ironic how Plauche happens to be at the airport when Doucet arrives and happens to be in the same area where the cops are leading Doucet to the police cars located outside of the airport? Plauche had the friends in high places to get him off without paying the consequences. If it would have been one of us that committed the same crime, you can bet your butts that we would have to serve some time in jail. Some friends of Plauche have even told the press that Doucet was involved with Plauche's wife and the two of them, with her son, were supposedto run away to California. There were many stories about the background of all the players in this scenario (sp). Only the Good Lord knows the truth of what actually happened. If I was in Plauche's shoes, I would actually consider doing what he did, but I can't imagine me living the rest of my life, knowing that I took another person's life. I would probably be an alcoholic or would suppress what I did by taking meds. No matter what any of us think, I find crap like this to be a lose, lose situation. Nobody comes out a winner.

That has always been a rumor. I don't think it was a secret when he was returning because the news was there.

Yeah, was definitely a top secret movement. News crews pretty much sit in the airport just waiting for that next big story.

Isnt it ironic that the media was also in those same "secret" places waiting for his arrival?

I agree.

It's odd to think they would just casually walk him in with one officer escorting him and not have the area clear of pedestrians.

Of course, I wasn't around in 1984, and I'm sure the world was a different place back then. But the whole thing seems a bit fishy.

It was close enough to be live. Something a lot of people don't know was that Mr. Gary was talking to someone on the pay phone and I was sitting next to him. He shot him and as I remember it around 2-3 minutes later it was on the news.

No, it's not ironic, it's coincidental.

That was a damn good shot. He only had 1 chance and had to make it count, plus he had to be ready to make his move cause it was only like a 6 second window.

I would have done the same thing.

It was much more than2-3 minutes later that the story aired, the shooting happened at about 9:30 and aired at 10. Remember this is 1984, the tape had to be driven from the airport to channel 2 studio, rough edit and then broadcasted

Anybody know who Gary was talking to on the phone?

I believe Gary found out through a leak from WBRZ, probably while at his watering hole The Cotton Club, right down the street from WBRZ, weather it was by accident or a tip is my only question

BTW, anyone that says they saw it live is wrong, it was not live, it happened about 9:30, channel 2 showed it at 10 o'clock news

Ok well I watched it when it first was shown about thirty minutes after. Guess I should have clarified that from thirty fricking years ago. Sorry my mind was off. I remember my steak was a bit past medium rare and I was disappointed.

That's not true...

He was talking to my Dad. I was sitting next to my Dad on the bed. I knew when it happened in real time because my dad heard he shot. I left the bedroom and walked past the kitchen where my Mom was watching dishes. I told her what happened on the way to turn on the TV. Unless the years have blurred things completely, I remember being shocked at how quickly it was on the TV. I remember it being minutes. Maybe I am wrong.
