Again, I am just looking for the argument that could be made with a straight face to an auditor.

Are you trying to suggest that lawyers need to have a straight face to present their case? I don’t disagree this seems like a poor case for an S Corp, but it’s done all the time for similar situations. For one, without knowing more details we don’t know how she is paid exactly it’s possible she is just paid to be available and doesn’t always work directly at the hospital as a staff.

It’s good money but you live on the road. Every 3-6 months in a different part of the country. Great in your 20’s in small batches. Hard to make friends and have a meaningful relationship while you’re doing it.

I’m a radiologist. I make 800k a year at least. Last year I made 1.2 million.

You must work your arse off, or live in an area with an high cost of living, the average salary of a radiologist is just north of 500K….

An IR’s average salary is around 600K….

Nighthawking?

I work normal 7:30 to 4:30 m-f

No nights

6 weekends a year I work sat and sun 8-4

And I have 12 weeks vacation

Average rad is definitely not 500k. Thats booty

Average pay from rads I actually know from residency spread across the country now is 700-750k

The worst paying area is the southeast

The best is the Midwest.

You gotta realize that those numbers take into account doctors at the VA and low paying academic places really pulling down the average.

Also, in basically every field of medicine, how much you make can vary widely depend, depending on how much work.

So you're admitting Allied Health students go to the same med school, or health science center? Whatever they called it...

Well, some of these places also have dental schools, but that doesn’t mean that the medical students go to the dental school. This is a dumb argument.

Only 2 years post grad. Basically the equivalent in time required as a MBA but one you come out with the ability to make a half million if you grind travel contracts hard enough while you are young and not ready to plant roots.

CNBC wrote an article about this chick because she does exactly that and makes $300k

So let’s do the standard OT move and almost double it and say we personally know 10 people that make that much

You do realize there’s clinical time involved as well right?

If she is acting as an independent contractor getting a 1099, if she has an LLC set up as an S corp the proceeds are business revenue. The “business” then pays her a salary, she can easily
Set that at say 100k a year. She will pay 15% self employment tax plus income tax on that, the remainder of the business revenue, she can then pay to herself as a corporate “dividend”. She will still have to pay income tax on that portion but not the 15% self employment tax because it’s not “regular” income so she would be saving 15% on $200,000 or $30,000

We know what an S Corp is

What made you come up with $100k as a reasonable salary?

I got the 100k from the same place almost everybody on this forum pulls stuff. My arse of course. I did see sofaking post earlier that average salary for a CAA is $140k, if that’s average benchmark it there. Still a good savings.

I can see that. Our fees for radiology services have been cut to shite by CMS over the past five years and they were already bottom of the barrel. Losing our good radiologists to retirement and higher paying areas of the country. Most around here are arse. I've got a kid (late 30's) that was my neighbor when I was a resident. He thought working ER's and other shite I did was the coolest thing ever so he went to med school. I talked him into radiology and he's my go to guy now. I read most of my films, but it's nice having a solid second set of eyes and digital imaging.

True, but those numbers are getting more realistic with reimbursement cuts and no real raises in 20 years. At least not in Arkansas. The top end is significantly lower in every specialty I know of and you're having to work harder to get it. I don't know that I'd go to med school with the current pay vs. the cost. Damn sure wouldn't do primary care. I've carved out a niche in industrial medicine, but anything related to insurance is bullshite.

In the actual world, people don’t make the average salary. That’s why it’s called the “average”

Individuals make specific salaries. So, many CRNAs make more than the average and many doctors make less.

Thus, many CRNAs make more than doctors.

considering only 2% of the population and only 2.5% of household make that.....yea i would say making more than 98% of people in the US is pretty good.
