So if I get this right, you’re in your 40s and you’ve never done serious work, you have tons of money from your family, and you’re already retired? The thing that confuses me is that everything you say makes you sound like dirt poor white trash

I’ve got to ask again... is there’s particular reason you are set on co-ownership in no ones name and the only long term planning being a suicide pact?

I worked as a teacher, librarian and first responder for many years. I have college degree. I am retired due to serious health issues, not because of age.

I do not receive any disability payments, gov't assistance or Medicaid. I support myself.

Sorry about your confusion. I'm not dirt poor but I am so white I glow in the dark. As for trashy, meh, this is the OT, everything is trashy.

I am not in my late 50's 0r 60's. I know I sound old because of my way due to my talk of retirement and health but I'm younger than that.

You sound like you’re in your 60’s

If you’re in your 40’s and were nothing but a school teacher your entire working career, I doubt you have any money to retire comfortably

There's something else you could do while down there that he would appreciate as well.

Have a camp with 4 others. Have a LLC and we are all members of said LLC. Have a General Liability policy and insurance on the hubting parcels. We pay equal amount and our hunting leases are all apart of it. If there is a repair or We do something, split even. We are all far from retirement so never started it with that in mind. Will cross that road when we get there. A member had left and their share was sold for what we have put in.

In a perfect world, when one of us dies our son/sons assume our role.

Good luck...

We have seem too many families and relationships broken up over money and property. We want a creative solution that works for our situation.

There is NO suicide pact. There will be very explicit DNR paperwork that covers everything and makes it very clear what we want.

Not sure what other "long term planning" one can do with Alz. It would be a nightmare to exist like that for years. Neither of us wants to put our family thru that torture.

As someone who has Alzheimer's/dementia in their family and has seen it up close with 4 grandparents. I completely understand. It's my biggest fear. I consider it far far worse than death. Please just kill me.

IMO, this idea has disaster written all it that will not end well.

Getting legal advice from anonymous posters on a college football message board is not the best route to take.

Get the advice of a couple different lawyers, specially lawyers who are well versed in land ownership in the area you are wanting to purchase land.

I think you are about to learn why community ownership of property is a bad idea.

Dude, with all the stuff we deal with , our humor can be pretty dark.

Is there anyone here who has lost a loved one to Alzheimer's? Anyone understand the torture it is for the patient and the family?

Is there anyone who truly wanted to prolong their loved one in the advanced condition?

I live in terror that get Alz and not be allowed to die. Sis has the same fear. If nothing else, please understand that.

Cyanide pills are one reasonable solution.

And there are others.

Thanks. Sounds like you were able to make it work for everyone. That is all we are trying to do as well. An LLC looks like it might work for us for a variety of reasons.

THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE, I HAVE NEVER PRACTICED IN LA

Go to an attorney that does trust and estate work. Explain what you want to do. My guess is they will set up a trust in the children's name that you want to pass the property on to. Then they will set up a life estate in the property for the three individuals that are going to live there. They can also look at limiting liability but in general, there is not a huge amount of exposure for a homestead. At least nothing a homeowners policy and umbrella wouldn't cover.

The key here is getting proper legal advice for the jurisdiction the property is located in. What you want to do is fairly straightforward in most states.
