Chimes East gets pretty dark too. You can always expect to walk in and have to wait because a goddamn 50 person party is eating in there with the check split 50 ways.

I would've never thought of those areas to be bad back in the day. Amazing how quickly parts of BR have gone downhill.

There has been a small pocket of ghetto in the Chimes East and Foxy’s area for over 25-30 years.

Find a police precinct in BR and it’s always near a shitty area.

To correct my previous post in which I was going purely from memory: it wasn’t a credit for time served sentence; the case was dismissed by the prosecutor. Either way, the judge had no power to make him do anything. In fact, she didn’t even have the authority to “order” him to do acts of kindness.

WBRZ reported that the drive that was started for more cops in BR a year ago has not worked. The shortage of cops increased from 60 to 70.
They blame poor starting pay claiming a cop can start somewhere else for 20K more.

That may be true and some of the reason BR is short on cops, but we all know the lack of support by the mayor for the cops has hurt too.

She isn't pro police and she he hasn't made strengthening the force a priority. The new chief seems to be trying, but the mayor doesn't seem to have his back.

When will EBR start receiving internet sales tax from the state? I remember an article from a week or two ago saying it's supposed to begin soon. Or has that money already been pissed away before it even starts coming in?

Exactly. Do the math. Would you rather be a cop in Ascension where you see a homicide or 2 per month -- mostly domestic -- or work the streets of BR for preschool teacher pay and have action all night?

Swb has, correct me if I am wrong, never once proposed any sort of package to give more money and assistance to city police. Red flag. This city is per capita one of the 20 worst on homicides in the US. And we worry about libraries and meetings and letting incompetents like Gravy and Slim have voices and PAY (slim, you had your day).

There are still good cops in BR. And they deserve 60 to 80k. Easily. While many of them take the job as a last resort, they deserve thanks for a thankless job. They have families. They're trying not to live off of Uncle Sam. And maybe if we vote SWB out in 2020, we can get a mayor who will offer some sort of package and great pay and attract a candidate from a bigger city.

I probably could have heard the commotion outside. I heard a shootout about a year ago that was off of Coursey and a ton of cops responding. Nothing ever on the news. About 15-20 shots that time also.

I'm a mile or 2 away as the crow flies but sound travels far at night.

Very eloquently put and very true. It’s an infection and it’s getting worse every day.

Do you guys use a radio scanner or something online? I'd like to listen to this sometimes.

Not a chance this will happen unless Kip decides to take another stab at running and can somehow win.

This is the only article I found on the news: WBRZ

quote:

Two people had minor injuries after a shooting in a parking lot on Coursey Boulevard near Southpark Drive overnight.

quote:

While detectives are still working the case, they said early Saturday, it appears the victims and suspects knew each other.

Regardless of who is at fault, the system is too soft. After he was released he murdered a woman and shot a 9 year old girl in the back several times.

We don't need prison reform and a relaxation of mandatory sentencing, we need those laws made stricter. Longer sentences and more prisons. Sorry, but that's the truth. Too many people cannot comport their behavior in a manner befitting a civilized society. All they do is spread misery to the innocent.

The imprisoned non-violent offender is by and large a myth cooked up by advocacy groups. If you dig into these people's histories you will find violence that has either been pled down or dismissed. There are far too many violent people with lengthy histories walking America's streets.

What you want is either a system run by psychics or a system that locks everyone in a cage in the name of safety. Aramis had zero criminal history and was arrested for a misdemeanor illegal carry. Just because he ended up murdering someone doesn't mean there was a damned thing anyone could have done to prevent that based on his previous charges.

Please give me an example of a crime you believe needs a longer minimum sentence.

Simply untrue. The fact that there are indeed some people who fit your description doesn't change the fact that there are plenty of people serving a couple of years in Parish or a handful in DOC with no violent history whatsoever.

Said nothing about "everyone." But those frequent fliers, yes.

There re several but a couple...Armed Robbery is a minimum of 10 years. Not long enough. 20. Possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies is minimum 10 and not more than 15 without chance of parole. Again need to be 20 at minimum. Why? Because 20 would allow for some to age out of a drive towards criminal behavior.

Simply untrue.
We'll disagree. Sure many have an instant offense of possession with intent but dig into their past and you'll find violence in the majority of cases. And, I'm not speaking of parish jails so much as prisons. You want your handful of truly non-violent offenders out of prison? Fine. But, we both know there are far too many people under 40 years old with violent convictions wandering the streets spreading mayhem because of the DA screwing up, the judge being lenient, etc.
