So many great roles. Him as Gus Solinksy with Catherine O’Hara. One of many

That is correct.
And oddly enough, he just passed away a few weeks ago.

The King of Bacchus. He had a beer and a cig in each hand and his face was whiter than his toga.

He was a treasure. My kids and I watch “The Great Outdoors” together yearly. Just a joy to watch all of his movies!

Robin Williams would have to pack on a few pounds to make it balance, but we’ll allow it.

His death also probably robbed us of any more John Hughes movies. He was reportedly devastated by Candy’s death and the fact that they never reconciled after a disagreement over compensation for Candy’s part in Home Alone and Hughes basically quit the business.

Is there more story to this? Sounds interesting

There seems to be a couple of versions.

But Candy was busy with other roles and had only 1 day to film his home alone cameo. Hughes alleged that Candy agreed to do it for scale and Candy was paid $414 for his day of filming. Allegedly Candy was offered a back end deal but turned it down as a favor to Hughes.

After the film exploded and made ridiculous money, Candy was pissed about his pay and Hughes got mad as he felt a deal was a deal and Candy had turned down his offer. So they stopped talking and Candy died before they could reconcile and Hughes was crushed by that.
