I have zero doubt he would have been able to transition to serious roles over time. Dude could act

Agree.

That's what made Robin Williams great.

Man that really sucked, almost rented out that lake house from Uncle Buck few years back for a family trip where i was going to make everyone watch all his movies. (it was a bargain)

There was a documentary on him few years ago, and i think he had been off coke for years before his death but was a big stress eater, and it was probably his weight was biggest factor in his death.

He had a few non comedy roles. I remember him in JFK. Man that movie had an incredible cast.

He used to impersonate Orson Wells on SCTV to hilarious effect. Still watch that stuff pretty frequently.

There's one bit where he's a guest on the Liberace Christmas Special.

Uncle Buck and Great Outdoors were excellent, but Summer Rental always gets lost in the mix.

SCTV

I absolutely love John Candy. Dude seemed like a good person and a great family man which is very rare in that industry. SCTV was phenomenal at finding talent.

Google his name and list of movies he did. It's astonishing how many were beloved movies. The guy just had something about him nobody can duplicate or imitate. Truly one of a kind generational talent.

Rick Moranis was so good on that show, too.

Do you have any idea how talented you have to be to make Cosner look second chair?

Costner knows how to only play Costner. He's the same in every role

His death also probably robbed us of any more John Hughes movies. He was reportedly devastated by Candy’s death and the fact that they never reconciled after a disagreement over compensation for Candy’s part in Home Alone and Hughes basically quit the business.

One of his last films was Canadian Bacon, which I find hilarious and extremely relevant to today. It shows just how easy it is for people to buy into a specific narrative for purposes of militarization.

Check your local lib. Horrors, I know but I've found that was no longer in print.

We can debate Costner at a later date on the Movie Board, but this thread herein is all John Candy. And like everyone else, I miss him as he seemed like a genuinely good person and I miss his incredible acting and comedic timing.

That was one funny Canuck.

Everyone should YouTube the original ray parker Ghostbusters theme video and see him in it. Its a who's who of the eighties comedy basically and everyone looks like they were having a blast making it.

Maintain to this day that Plains Trains and Automobiles is one of the greatest comedies of all time.
