Wrong. You have to stand in long lines at night and they pat down/wand/ID every person entering Beale St. It takes forever and is annoying. Beale is pretty fun though.
no way that would work with the crowds on BOurbon, especially during events like Super Bowl. But it keeps Beale pretty safe

They better get that shite under control. Seems like this type of thing was kept out if the touristy areas in the past. Talk about screw up you tourism . Start capping people who are just visiting and watch the dollars dry up.
NOPD will be clamping down.

Ya, I've done that. Didn't like the feeling when you leave and there is no activity on the side streets and any potential criminal knows for a fact you aren't armed at all.
Felt a bit more sketch, but I only did it once.

The main tourist spot on Beale St is like 1 block. It's a little more difficult with how long bourbon is and with all of the cross streets.

I keep saying clean up the French Quarter. Get rid of the Strip clubs, the shite bars and rezone that fricker like Times Square and you'll see changes. But I'm being an a-hole to the local populous when I say that apparently.

This thread started Sunday morning around 4am when I was getting ready for an all-day fishing trip. I had no idea it would grow to be 40 something pages and people would need updates for news purposes. Those saying OP sucks and are too lazy to check the numerous news outlets that have taken this story and ran with it since it happened, please accept my most sincere apologies.
This is the update as of 10pm Monday night:
It appears victim #1 is the only one in critical condition. The late local news had one witness saying some particular victim was shot in the neck and was in bad shape. Based on the link provided, one can only assume this is victim #1.

yeah I don't know if stop and frisk is the right answer or not. clearly it's infringement on the rights of the people. SOMETHING has to change for the french quarter though.
if people don't feel safe hanging out in the quarter, revenue will dry up and the city will have a MAJOR problem on their hands. keeping the quarter safe should be priority #1 for the mayor.
I don't know why your post in particular made me want to post this so badly

Arkansas Woman Victim in New Orleans
06/30/2014 10:02 PM06/30/2014 10:07 PM
NEW ORLEANS (WVLA) — Several people are in critical condition after a shootout on the famous Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
It happened early Sunday morning.
Police say two men just started shooting at each other and bystanders were the ones who got hit.
It was all caught on camera.
This surveillance video, taken from inside the Tropical Isle, shows the chaos ensue as people scrambled to take cover in the bar.
“I was in the back of the bar taking a cigarette break when all of a sudden I heard a lot of gunshots, it had to be like more than eight of them.”
Jimmy Burgin, a bartender at Tropical Isle, immediately ran to the front doors to help put the bar in lockdown.
And that's when he saw this 19-year-old woman from Arkansas, on the ground, suffering from a bullet wound to the abdomen.
“I was just wanting to see how bad off she was. I asked her if she was able to breathe ok, and everything, and she could feel her legs. She told me everything was ok as far as that goes, it just really hurt bad.”
According to Superintendent Ronal Serpas, two armed men got into a dispute and began firing at one another, spraying bullets into an unsuspecting crowd along Bourbon Street.

Not good when it starts happening to out of state tourists.

I agree with you. Move the strip clubs, shite bars and ghetto clubs out to the east and to the wank Keep the quarter somewhat classy and the thugs won't come in.
And also agree with closing down streets that perimeter the quarter either permanently closing the streets are closing them after midnight to zero vehicle traffic except for emergency vehicles. We also need more mounted police at night
