Blech. I know new styles often grow on you, but this is not a good look and the V6 is a deal killer. Maybe they’ll announce a hybrid or diesel… right?

That’s the rumor on the street. Born from invincible is thought to be a reference to the hilux invincible trim, which is only a diesel option. Should know tomorrow for sure.

There will be a hybrid, but a V6 hybrid.

That's ugly. Give me an old one.

Is it still a slug on MPG?

It will have a turbo v6 and then a hybrid v6, so I'm guessing it will be in the same mileage range as the F150.

Looks more like a big Tacoma.

Is the hybrid coming out 2022 or 23?

Word on the street is Match 2022. Truck goes on sale in December 2021.

The “good” old days of being able to choose a vehicle that you can potentially use & run for 15 years or more are over.
Vehicles are way too complicated and manufacturers have to build them to make efficiency standards where the use of lightweight materials, complex control technology, and turbo(s) are facts of life.
If you want one of those long term vehicles, you’ll have to find one from 20-plus years ago.
New vehicles last longer and are more reliable than vehicles from the past.
You sound like the type who thinks that heavy, steel vehicles are safer than the plastic ones we have now that crumple on purpose.

Tacoma was running a turbo 4 in the 80’s and it was a workhorse

You realize all 1/2 tons have 10 speeds now right?
Posted on 9/19/21 at 8:47 am to GREENHEAD22
Current tundra is 6 speed. I think dodge is 8 speed. And I think for Ford and gmc the 10 speed is on higher trims. Not sure.

A turbo V6.
Only it won't grenade itself like the Ford...

New vehicles are absolutely many orders of magnitude more reliable, safe, and long lasting than the old junk of decades past. Toyota builds the pinnacle of all 3.

It’s been about a decade since the ecoboost was released and I’d probably trust it enough to buy one now, finally.
I would trust the Toyota turbo six right away.

Exactly, Yota going to a 10 speed so only ram is left. GM and Ford are moving all their trucks to 10 speed regardless of the trim. The GM 8 speed is abominable.

Yeah that whole generation of purely direct injection engines made a lot of power at first
...but apparently the engineers didn't think they needed to figure out how not to gum up the valves.

How do they compare in relative cost of ownership, though?
I had a 1989 Chevy pickup that my dad bought from me for the farm and only retired it a couple years ago with about eleventy-million miles on it. The starter was something you could easily reach and replace. On my Tundra? It was a $1200 fix. That's just an example. Everything is so drive by wire now, your CPU goes out and it's another $1200.
Headlight burn out? You pop the hood, pull it out and replace it. And the Chevy had this little corded light on a reel you could pull out and put anywhere around the truck. On my current Tundra? You have to remove the entire damn grille and a couple panels to change a stupid bulb. (2015). My 2010 was not this dumb. No clue what it's like on the current model, you may have to drop the transmission...
PS, I'm on my 3rd Tundra... so I'm a fan.
