2022 Toyota Tundra Redesign - Photos

It's expected that Toyota will use the same twin turbo V6 that's in the 2022 Land Cruiser (not available in the US). If so, it will likely put out over 400 horsepower through a 10 speed automatic.

We'll discover if this engine warrants its name when Toyota formally pulls the wraps off of the new Tundra in the coming weeks. Given the faux intake manifold decoration on the engine cover, it seems likely the iForce Max packs six cylinders as opposed to the iForce's eight. This further reinforces our hypothesis that the (not-for-America) 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine will come to the U.S. to motivate the new Tundra.
The engine packs 409 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque in the latest Land Cruiser, sums we anticipate will carry over to the 2022 Tundra, as well. (These figures also better those of today's 5.7-liter iForce V-8 by 28 horses and 78 lb-ft of torque.) Like the new Land Cruiser, the 2022 Tundra ought to mate its forced induction engine to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, this is all conjecture until Toyota divulges more specifics about the next-generation Tundra and its iForce Max engine. For now, though, the clues in Toyota's latest teaser for the new Tundra seem to indicate the truck's flagship engine will no longer be a V-8, but a V-6.

I'd post a picture, but it's really just a photo of a textured plastic engine cover that's designed to look like it's made of metal. The Tundra reveal should be later this week, but might get extended into July.
Update-Leaked photos:
Head lights and side grill vents look weird. But otherwise it's okay.

There’s been leaked info of the hybrid TTV6 getting 500 HP and 600lb/ft of torque. I’ll try and find the picture someone on Tundras.com posted of all the numbers.

I just ordered a 2021, didn't want to miss the last of the V8's.

If they get rid of the V8's I'm going to be pissed off. They better come out with a diesel then. V6 doesn't have the capacity to tow what I need.

I would guess it will be just the twin turbo v6 next year, then maybe a diesel a year or two after that. I think they have a small diesel in trucks in other countries, but they will spend a long time getting it right before releasing a product here with it.

I guess I need to get caught up. I also have no desire for a v6, no matter what the claims are. I have every intention of driving my 2015 into the ground, but I have to be honest with myself, I'll want a new one yesterday.
I've gone 2006-2010-2015 and I'm beyond my expiration date. :-)

Far fewer issues with a naturally aspirated engine, generally. Slapping forced induction on teeny tiny engines is some type of new fad that I’m not a fan of. It makes sense in certain applications, but most truck owners ride their trucks hard and put em away wet…can’t be so careless with forced induction.

3.5TT like the f150 will get around 17.5mpg. Hybrid will add maybe another 50-60hp and get 21mpg.

I would take a Toyota twin turbo engine with a hybrid powertrain, CVT transmission, and cylinder deactivation before I would even consider a natural aspirated V8 from Ford.
But yeah, all things being equal, the NA V8 has far fewer issues. The Toyota 5.7L V8 used in the current gen Land Cruiser and Tundra is a great engine. So is their 4.0L V6 that's still used in the smaller Land Cruiser Prado and 4Runner.

There’s a front end pic on Toyota’s website but it won’t allow me to copy the pic.

You know you can thank Obama? The EPA putting the squeeze for more mpg, has lead to these small turbo engines in trucks.
I like the Toyota V8 also, but the next comment would be about the poor gas mileage it gets.
I'm excited for the Tundra to have a possible Twin Turbo V6 mated with hybrid tech. This combo is supposed to blow away the V8 in hp, torque, and mpg. If they do the hybrid I'm likely upgrading from my Tacoma into a Tundra.
