Sign me up for having a true public option that offers a true competitor to private insurance.

Not only do I pay exactly what the OP does, I also hurt my shoulder bad this year.

Insurance co: "get PT before we allow MRI. They are expensive".

Get PT, did nothing.

Get MRI, which shows massive labrum tear and need for surgery...

Insurance then rejected my surgery.

Not sure what the point of paying over 1k a month premiums plus a 7k deductible if that kind of stuff is just rejected. Beyond frustrating.

My employer just announced our health insurance options for 2022. The cheapest plan to insure myself and my family (wife and two kids) is nearly $18k in annual premiums, with a $7k deductible.

What was it last year?

If OP is paying 18K/yr in premium, how much is your employer paying? What's the total premium?

That’s rough. I’d be looking for a new employer.
I’m on my wife’s plan and it’s $180/month(family) and company puts 200/month into the hsa. We max out the hsa above what the company puts in and invest most of the hsa account. If it wasn’t for me and my son being on the plan her insurance would be $0/month.

$238.99 premium

$317.00 family deductible

$1058.00 catastrophic cap

In return, Uncle Sugar gets his pound of flesh.

We won't know till December, but have been told to expect an increase.

Last year, they sprung on us at our meeting in December that to keep spouses on our plan if they had any other alternative for insurance would be a $500/month surcharge, and we had to scramble to get my wife added to her retiree option 2 months after their open enrollment.

I hate insurance and the stupid costs.

Don’t buy long term disability. If you’re hurt on the job working Comp will take the money and you won’t see a dime.

It amazes me that most of the people who are against universal healthcare are the ones who would benefit from it the most.

Not really, as I'm sure taxes would increase to unheard of levels to pay for it. Also, I'm not sure I want the government controlling any aspect of my healthcare. What exactly do they do well?

What we need is competition in the health insurance industry. We need innovative thinkers to radically shake how we access our health care. Sorry, no solid ideas over here, but hoping one of the great brains out there will come up with a great plan!

I dont want the government controlling my healthcare. They are already forcing it on me to live and hold a job.

All it will do is raise the cost to me because my taxes will increase more than what I currently pay for insurance.

Level of care will drop dramatically in this country.

Health insurance is a racket. The government subsidizes the least healthy through Medicare and Medicaid and shoulders the majority of risk. Health insurance is a government handout. Insurers purposely want billing complicated AF because that's what keeps them in business. The more inefficient healthcare industry is the more they will have power. Every state has their own insurance department. More red tape. More costs into the system. It's the equivalent of every state having its own military unit and also having their own contracts with Boeing, Raytheon and all the other defense contractors, and also running their own retirement benefits program, their own VA etc... The healthcare industry here is a shite show.

It's usually the smaller the company the higher the costs to the employee

My company is 50 employees. We have seen passed on health insurances costs for 5 years running now. And they forced my wife off our plan, so I can only contribute to a single HSA which is a huge benefit loss in my mind.

Really what we need is for people to realize that it is impossible to have all 3 of

1. Access. See any doc you want and go to any hospital you want.
2. Excellence - cutting edge technology and all the latest and greatest things. Every new drug as well.
3. Efficiency and low cost

Pick any 2. It's not possible to have all 3. But that's pretty much what we expect. There are plenty things that could be done to help the average healthcare consumer. Neither Dems nor Reps ever talk about them because they are both in bed with the drug companies.

I agree with you.

I’m all for universal healthcare but the average liberal doesn’t understand that isn’t the same as everyone having high end health insurance.
