2022 Open Enrollment Heath Insurance Rant

My employer just announced our health insurance options for 2022. The cheapest plan to insure myself and my family (wife and two kids) is nearly $18k in annual premiums, with a $7k deductible. I can afford it, but HOLY shite. And to be clear, this is not some platinum plan that covers everything.
For context, a full time worker earning 10 bucks an hour, working 40 hours a week would earn gross wages of $19,200. (40 hrs x $10, x 4 weeks, x 12 months)
I guess when you see hospitals charging $56 bucks for an aspirin and have more administrators than healthcare professionals, this is why you get. frick everyone involved in this bullshite racket, ESPECIALLY the government that has allowed and created this system.
Want to go get insurance through the exchange? We’ll that’s not going to be tax deductible, like your employer offered plans.

Lobby your Senators and your House Rep for a public option.

Make your kids to setup a lemonade stand to pay for their own health insurance.

I agree.
Im also family of 4 and pay almost identical to you.
Its highway robbery.
Im not sure how average families afford it.

Will just keep getting worse until we do away with private insurance companies.
It amazes me that most of the people who are against universal healthcare are the ones who would benefit from it the most. The people below the poverty line get medicaid and pay enormously less than those of us who pay for health insurance.

We had a meeting a couple months ago about the company changing to a different insurer. The family plans were so high that one of the secretaries started to cry and left. It's brutal.

One minor thing that pisses me off is that my company ( and others I've worked for) charge salary employees a higher rate than the hourly employees.
Not a whole lot, but maybe about $50/ month more for family.

I looked at the marketplace yesterday. My big issue is that this year, for the first time, all of my providers aren't unified on one plan. MY GP is on almost every plan, but the usual set of providers (more precautionary to make sure if something happens I have the best in my area) are on some but not others.

is your employer paying anything?
you can get an obamacare plan without any credits for income for half of that with better deductible.
My new company's premiums are $215 a month for family 90/10 with a $1400 deductible that the company also matches in a HSA account

Just to rub it in more, my employer just added a non vax covid tax, and even with that it's still a quarter of what you pay with better coverage.

The amazing thing is many of them espouse free market ideals. When was the last time you actually had a choice between different insurers? You may have a choice between different plans depending on your employer, but very seldom is the choice between one carrier or another. Your employer is making that choice for you.

Also, just to add to salt to the wound here, I’ll add my own health coverage situation:
1. I pay $5,760 a year for my family of four
2. Zero deductible
3. Zero coinsurance - 100% plan/0% me
3. $2,500 out of pocket max
4. $25 copays, $40 specialist copay
