The Detroit Free Press has spoken to several owners in different parts of the country who are experiencing heavy rust and significant corrosion on critical components like the axle. For example, one owner from Michigan discovered water dripping off the metal components under the vehicle which left dark stains on his garage floor only days after taking delivery. The guy spent just over $75,000 for this truck, his third F-150. The 2016 F-150 he traded in had no such corrosion even after 65,000 miles.

But at least their drivers seat can recline all the way and shifter retracts

Rarely are first year iterations of vehicles perfect.

Haven’t paid a car note in 17 years. Driven the same vehicle for that entire period of time.

They are building these trucks for a price point with a variety of parts sourced outside of the US.
The fact that a few part shave a crappy specification for their corrosion resistant coating, or a misapplied coating is of no surprise.
If you want a truck largely made of US parts and assembled 100% in the US consider the Toyota Tundra.

Thanks for the update. No one asked, nor do we care.

The people who think they're financial wizards because Dave Ramsey told them that vehicles are depreciating assets are always the funniest on here.

Is this guy too good for a wire brush and a little elbow grease?

It doesn't take a financial wizard to know automobiles depreciate at an incredible rate in the first couple years of ownership. It also doesn't take a genius to know driving a reliable vehicle that is paid for is a better move than carrying a car note.

Besides the 2015-2020 era body styles, haven't most of the first year of new body style generations had issues with Fords? I like the 21 alot, but I think if I was gonna get one, I'd wait until 22 or 23.

As someone posted earlier, buying the first year model of any domestic is a role of the dice. I wouldn't do it myself.

Buying a new vehicle every 3-4 years will delay your retirement about 5 years. Cars are rapidly depreciating assets, but that is common sense. The only physical asset most of us have that increases in value is our house.

You’re doing it wrong
If you know what you’re doing buying a new vehicle every 2-4 years can be a tax write off.
