Article is a little disingenuous since you can load up almost any car with tons of options and make it crazy expensive.. the base model starts around $25k.
Still, i wouldnt buy one because, maybe it’s just me, but the Escape is one of those cars that’s gotten uglier with each new generation.. it wasnt actually a bad looking little SUV in the mid-2000s, but the next one wasn’t attractive, and this latest one has even worse IMO... similar to what afflicted the once beastly Nissan Pathfinder.

I get idea, I really do. But a Q5 doesn't strike me as pretentious and you can get one for like 3k more.
Even when comparing top of the line versions of a domestic low end vehicle (like the Escape) vs. low end versions of a decent German (like the Audi), there is a certain fit and finish that the American vehicle never has.
They just feel...cheap. I say that as someone who would love to find the perfect American or Japanese SUV that is practical and stout and boring with a luxury interior. But it doesn't exist.

The Q5 STARTS at about 2k more. If you want one with all the same features as the Escape, you're going to be in the 50s.
