New Orleans gaining 12% is impressive. I’m sure it’s not all quality people moving in but considering the gentrification and housing prices, at least some of it is.

Will it continue? Who knows.

Do MSA’s - Metro Baton Rouge saw huge growth - Zachary, Central, Ascension, WBR all saw growth. White flight out of Baton Rouge Proper caused the reduction in population.

Was surprised to see that East Baton Rouge and Livingston went up given the flooding just a few years before the census.

860,000 people in Baton Rouge metro now.

About 3 times as large as it was when they first built I-10 through the city (and haven’t widened it since).

Really not shocked to see NLA continuing to shrink.

How in the crud did Lake Charles increase? Poor place has been wiped out by every hurricane from A-Z! I would have guessed its numbers decreased 50%. Good for them, I guess.

Prairieville 31,974 (+18.88%) will probably crack the Top Ten in 2030.

Crazy that in the 60s New Orleans had over 600,000 people.

Most of Nola's population growth was during 2010-2016, when gentrification was full swing. The population has been stagnant the past two years, mainly thanks to Covid wrecking the city's tourism-based economy, OOC crime, and Latoya's incompetence.

Not really. The population was way down in 2010 after Katrina 5 years earlier. It had nowhere to go but up.

Considering the inhospitable nature of the administration that runs a hospitality city….

Nola has its problems, but IMO the current mayor is the biggest one. Bourbon needs to be crawling with drunk tourists every weekend. You don’t let them come, while letting the locals shoot each other way and those tourists might never be back.
