Merging with the main campus and now being under the leadership of our great president, F. King Alexander, is what is going to kill LSU law.
LSU law revenue will decrease because they will have to send money to the main campus, which will lead to hiring less qualified professors, which will lead to a shittier law school.

Tulane is certainly comprised of a higher percentage of out of state students, which is why they leave Louisiana to return home (or go elsewhere -- point is, this is not home to those students)
However, that is not the same for Loyola. They are relatively the same as LSU in terms of out of state students.
Per Tulane's website: 88% out of state (class of 19 numbers, might be less overall) LINK
Per Loyola's website: 21 percent are out of state LINK
Per LSU's website: 20 percent are out of state LINK

Funny you say that. Had they not merged, they would have faced the budget cuts that every institution in the state faced. Because of the merger, they only saw a trickle down effect of what LSU as a whole got.
So merging, in effect, saved LSU Law.

Tulane was in the 30's when I started there. They went through a few deans and the Katrina issues didn't help.

Do you have numbers to back this up? I know that at the time of the merger, LSU law would have been better off not merging with the main campus from a budget standpoint. I don't know how the budget cuts affected that. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just know that much of the LSU law faculty and admin were strongly opposed to the merger.

Ohhh you bet the faculty were opposed! Did you see the list of the tenured faculty asking for Weiss' resignation? It was like 25/30 or something like that.
From what I had heard was LSU Law did it to get away from the budget cuts. That was the only positive. Everything else is a negative.

Why do these rankings even exist? I'm sure the top dozen or so are truly the best, but further down the list you see some oddballs.

Those rankings don't mean a thing. Passed the LA first time and I went to "unranked" southern.

One thing that had to hurt Tulane was that in summer 2016 it dropped below Loyola in the bar pass rate, making Tulane third in the state in that respect. When you have 70 people take the bar and 20 of them fail, that is not a good result for an elite law school.
