Are the horse flies especially bad this year?

I’ve lived in Covington for 14 years and can’t remember them ever being this bad.

Anyone have a reason for this or a farmers almanac I can borrow to get a head count?

Should I start a separate thread about horseflies that applies to my general location?

They are pretty bad. They were worse three years ago. That year they were monsters that drew blood. FWIW I live in Covington on a pond. To hell with those bastards though.

Ryno or Net probably have the numbers from their HOA meetings.

Yeah they seem exceptionally bad this year. First the flying termites and now these bastards.

Worst in numbers, longest duration deer fly season in several years in Ponchatoula. For those keeping score, horse fly season is yet to come.

Not sure about the north shore but they are fricking awful in Baton Rouge off river road. We are going through gallons of fly spray and still brought one mare in last night covered in blood from those assholes.

Ugh. Yes! They were attacking us in our yard recently. First time I remember seeing them when I wasn’t in a pool or near water.

I was in Mexico Beach, FL last week. The horse flies pretty much ruined the backyard of our rental house.

I had two fly into my vehicle on Sunday. That was fun flailing my arms around like a jackass trying to get them out.

They’re pretty bad. One thing about them though is that they’re pretty slow. I’ve taken out several each day since they got here.

I’m worried I’m going to get bucked off

At least my guy doesn’t overreact too much.
