Hi everyone, I bought a quad to fix up thinking I may have it running in a CPL hours and now a month later I'm ready to trough it in da bayou lol..
It turns over and has spark but won't even try to start. Is there a way to check compression without a compression tester.. that sounds like a rhetorical question I know.

Remove spark plug, put finger over hole. Bump starter. Compression will move your finger.

Get an ohmmeter and check to make sure you’re getting about 350 in resistance.

I learned yesterday that the fuel selector valve has some o- rings that come apart and block all fuel going to carb. Why do you feel it may be compression ?

Yep. And I’d guess ethanol gummed carburetor. Tear apart and rebuild or buy new carb.

I would pull the fuel line off and make sure you have fuel going to the motor first.

Or pull the plug, put about a teaspoon of gas in it, then see if it fires. If it does, you know gas is not getting into the cylinder.

Carburetor baw. Trust me. Buy a new one for 80.00.

You need to prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and you’re gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone.

Try turning it from off to on

Check compression first. If that’s good then check to see if the carb is getting fuel. Make sure the valve is in the on position and pull the fuel line off the carb. If it’s not flowing petcock is your problem. If it is flowing, carb is your problem, typically. Can rebuild it yourself for about $30 if you’re handy, aftermarket replacement for ballpark $80 and oem carb replacement is about $157 on partszilla part number is (16100-HN5-M41). Good luck, baw.

spray ether in carb throat and see if it fires up. If it does get a carb

Buy new. Go to zoom zoom parts.
Not worth buying a kit to repair. They come ready to install and fire up. I repaired a 98 Honda fourtrax not that long back.
.....few people keep saying 80 for new. These are 17-40 dollars and are identical to OEM. Have had no issues with the one I bought.

One other thing...make sure the kill switch is centered.
