Again, this is driven by the criminals out there. If someone would train the criminals to only act out using pistols and handguns, the cops can go back to just being "cops". But when the criminals are militarizing and bringing AK's to the gunfights, cops have to respond in kind, or get outgunned and massacred.

This is bullshite. When the cops stop buying ARs, the criminals will destroy their AKs.

Why did Barney give up his revolver? Because he wasn't happy with it any longer or did he find himself outgunned?

Is Barney only working in Mayberry? Some of these arguments are baffling.

Go watch Cocaine Cowboys and you will see why the police changed their weapons. They were going into shootouts with revolvers while the other side had high capacity guns and rifles. Six shots against a guy with two 15 round or more clips.

Stopped right there. They ARE addressing these issues, intentionally, in a manner to make tensions worse.

Divide and conquer.

(As a side note: how does one go about getting avi and sig privileges back? I've actually always wondered this and have fallen victim to my own sense of mischief)

Damn I had never seen the Kyle Dinkheller video. Very hard to watch. I don't understand why he didn't shoot him immediately when he grabbed a gun out of his car.

BS. Where was all this gear when fully auto machine guns were allowed on the streets in the 60-80's?

Cops had guns to respond in kind then, as well. Are you seriously alleging that criminals today aren't better armed today than in the 60's.

Wow.

It's what it always is: a power grab.

I, for one, would hope the cops maintain the power. If you want the power to shift to the criminals, speaks volumes on your mindset.

From the criminals? If so, me too, and I agree with you.

OK, now answer my question. I've never been intimidated by a cop.

I went to my office to respond to an alarm call because I knew it wasn't high priority. Long story made short...I had my pistol (carried by my pinky) with the slide pulled back and locked, the magazine out and in my pocket, my hands full of other stuff and the cop finally pulls up.

He analyzed the situation and didn't shoot me. Do you know why? Because I followed his orders completely and by doing so he was comfortable that I was not a threat.

However, he did say that I needed to carry it in a bag because some dumb rookie could have shot me. I hope he was being funny.

He never pulled his service weapon by the way. He actually never reached for it. I guess experience told him that my broken down pistol being carried on my pinky finger was going to take too long to fire to worry about.

7thWard still in here talking about "revolution"?

We live in a country where all a police officer has to do to justify killing another man is "be in fear for his life". But what about us, the citizens he is supposed to be protecting. What do we do when the one putting our lives in fear is the police? Think about it.

There is no justice when it comes to police violence. There is no accountability. Of course autopsy's results from coroners that work closely with the cops are going to come up as if the victim was the aggressor, just like a coroner who is brought in by the victims family is going to say the results show the victim wasn't the aggressor. Of course cops are going to cover for their own. There are good cops out there, but they seem to quickly turn their heads when it comes to matters involving other officers. If you can't see the issue with this, then you're being willingly ignorant

Baffling, like using the Andy Griffith show to support your argument?

This may be one of the dumbest statements I have ever read on this site, and that is saying something.

The first part was all sarcasm and someone else used the Andy and Barney reference I think so I went with it.

There's a reason why cops don't carry a revolver any longer. Mayberry is hard to find these days.

I'm fine with cops having ample firepower, no one is arguing differently.

What people are sick of is every Podunk, numbnuts police department having a "SWAT Unit" or an MRAP or a arsenal full of riot gear.

It is expensive, it is not needed, and most departments are so poorly trained they can't use the stuff anyway.

I don't see civilians rolling around in tanks or flying armed aircraft do you? The police are disproportionately militarized, that's a fact. No one had the balls to just occupy "certain" areas with the military so these politicians have used scare tactics to slowly turn us into a police state.

I work in big data. You may not realize it, but we are closer than you think...
