Nothing to do with this event but they really shouldn’t exist. The sheriffs office is capable of covering these small towns adequately. I’d say anything below population of 10k should rely on sheriff. Never going to happen because of power trippy mayors though

For the most part, I believe everything should be handled by parish sheriff's offices because at least the Sheriff is elected. Most police chiefs are untouchable as long as they do whatever the mayor says.

No shite. Which is why it almost never happens. It’s so freaking rare that there is a zero % anyone in this thread could name another time it’s happened without googling.

Just happened in Livingston this July when a cop was doing over 90 and not looking at the road and slammed into the back of girl stopped in the turning lane with a blinker on. The cop came into the turning lane and plowed into her car so hard that the entire rear of the car disintegrated to the front seats.

LP lied and said the car was just sitting there without lights. It was all a lie and the cop just got charged. They claimed he was in pursuit to a shooting but was going the opposite way.

In this thread today at TD, the mouthbreathers struggle with the legal concept of proximate cause.

First of all you have to be under the influence for that charge

He stole his dad’s car? Seems like a better move would be to break off the chase and catch him later of course that’s with hindsight.

I remember the incident but I didn't know these details. Terrible.

DA Clayton says Officer has a lot of questions to answer

quote:

Sunday, Clayton said the following about the officer's role in the crash that killed two Brusly High students: “That cop has a lot of questions to answer pertaining to his speed and sheer negligence. The public can rest assured, we will follow the facts.”

Yikes

Also, the manslaughter charges against the criminal who took the car is somewhat a joke. Those have zero chance of sticking

I’m pretty sure it’s a state constitution law - so it has to be voted on

You're so full of shite. The 'charge' was a way for law enforcement to let the grand jury decide so they didn't look apathetic about the passed out dopehead.
And that grand jury ended up giving him a fricking ticket. Why? Because there was NO evidence she was turning or had her lights on.

But there are MULTIPLE witnesses who saw her vehicle parked with no lights on and her sleeping at the wheel minutes before she was hit.

The cop was stupid but that chick was no innocent driver on the road. she was a passed out dopehead.

LP Deputy charged with careless operation

quote:

Winburn rear-ended a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Christinia Estave on La. 16 north of Denham Springs in July, State Police said. The grand jury did not find grounds to charge the deputy criminally, instead returning one count of careless operation of a motor vehicle.

Kurt Wall, assistant district attorney with the 21st Judicial District Court, said Winburn was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded no contest to the traffic ticket. A "no contest" plea does not admit guilt.

The judge imposed a 10-day parish prison sentence, which was suspended on the condition Winburn pay a fine of more than $300, Wall said. The assistant district attorney added this is a standard amount in careless operation cases.

Melissa Allyn, Christinia Estave's mother, said she is unhappy with the plea deal and didn't expect the initial indictment in which Winburn was not criminally charged.

If you want to live in this idealistic utopia
Calling it a "utopia" is just an easy way to dismiss the idea as if it's absurd, so you can ignore the absurdity of having a policy of taking a bad situation and making it worse.

GPS tracker launchers have been around for a long time. We can safely and effectively pursue any vehicle in a safe way if we want to. Unless creating dangerous situations for funsies is part of your idea of a utopia.

Making blanket policies like no pursuits instead of treating each situation independently is what lazy, unintelligent people propose much like zero tolerance policies imposed by dimwitted school administrators
