2/3 of teachers surveyed in Texas considering going peace out

This is in Texas... where the schools are allegedly good.
I know this board loves to hate teachers.
Most school districts - even the "good" ones - already have shortages. What's going to happen if teachers finally say that's enough and peace out en masse?
Who's going to teach your snowflakes then?
Might not have to worry about opting out of lessons, if there is no one to teach the lessons.
And it's not even about money.

“The fact that two-thirds of educators are thinking about quitting is really frightening. In addition to long-neglected low wages and the stress of increasing workloads, the omicron surge has created unbelievable chaos,” Texas AFT President Zeph Capo said. “Educators witness every day the devastating effects on our students when schools have staffing shortages. It’s only going to get worse unless teachers’ concerns are addressed.”

When the teachers were asked what would make them stay in public education, 45% said they want pay incentives (retention bonus, pay raise), 35% said they want changes to workload (fewer responsibilities) and 8% said they want workplace safety improvements.
And it's not even about money.

Like 4 months off for summer instead of 3?

I’m on their side bro. I’ll demonstrate or protest for them, whatever. Our slogan: “Tits Out For Teachers”

quote:I don't hate teachers, my family is loaded with them. What I hate is their incessant whining about having to work when they get summers and every holiday off, acting like they're being persecuted - meanwhile before I got sick I've missed every Mardi Gras, Easter, 4th, birthdays, even a few Thanksgivings because of work. Freight has to be hauled and I'm happy to do it. It's the whining about OH POOR US WE HAVE TO GO TO WORK AND ITS ONLY 28 DEGREES OUTSIDE that drives me insane.

They're underpaid and need raises, just shut the hell up about all of the other crap because there are worse jobs in this world. A lot of jobs have it worse.

Wish they would have done it because then we could finally end the mockery known as public education.

So just because there’s shittier jobs out there people shouldn’t advocate for improvement in their own field?
That’s always been such shitty logic. I don’t know of anyone in any other professional field that hasn’t pushed for better wages or conditions in their workplace at one point or another.

When they invoke Covid as a reason they want to quit, especially fricking omicron, their argument loses all validity

It’s Texas, not Commiefornia.

For some at least, it is about the money.

Then what? Private schools need teachers tooo... a lot more if public schools go out of business.

Breaking story: Teachers want more pay and less work. A truly unique perspective is taking shape here.

quote:No. Teachers have in services, continuing education classes, conferences, lesson planning, 2nd jobs, and report back very beginning of August. Not sure why most people don’t know this.
instead of 3

Half of this board would quit teaching a couple days in with what public schools teachers put up with.
They’re now expected to feed, clothe, and teach kids what they should be learning at home. Most people would be like frick all that. If teaching was just teaching the content and not being expected to pick up society’s slack it’d be much different.

Or maybe just focus on teaching... not teaching, lunch duty, after school duty, breaking up fights in the hallways, filling out reports for LEAP stats...

Because no one in any other profession has ever complained about going back to work after the holidays.
STFU.

Chalmette HS... which is supposed to be a "good" school as rated by the state... An "A" school... had 8 hallway fights one day last week. 8. One day.
Every one of those fights required multiple teachers/staff members to break them up, and of course all the kids are all fired up and won't pay attention in class cause the all want to talk about the fighting. And the teachers who broke them up... now they have to fill out reports, talk to admin, etc.

quote:The majority of us have to use vacation days to have more than one or two days off for those holidays, we don't get the entire week or half a month off for it - so no. Quit whining about going back to work like its some injustice that you're expected to go back to work in August after an entire summer off work.
Because no one in any other profession has ever complained about going back to work after the holidays. STFU.
Again, I'm all about teachers getting raises. Yall work your asses off for a bunch of shithead kids that are neglected by their parents and society as a whole. THAT is what needs to change big time.
