I just received a thorough cussing from a gentleman in the other lane because I proceeded to pull from the two lane to one lane like a zipper. One side goes then the other.

He was adamant that he should go first because he ordered first in his lane with the attendant like it’s done at McDonald’s.

What’s the proper etiquette here. It’s a zipper, right?

Of course, leaving open the possibility I’m the a-hole and have been wrong for years.

I think he's right. You go by who ordered first. At least that makes the most sense for the folks working the window.

They put the color and make of your vehicle on your ticket so it doesn’t matter who goes first. They’ll figure it out.

I don't know the etiquette of this, but I do know the other driver was wrong in comparing anything McDonalds related to Chik Fil A

Turn your hazards on when you zipper merge and cut him off is the obvious answer. He needs to be able to see you.

They’re so quick now, it doesn’t really matter. The male Karen will get his food as soon as it’s ready & he might have to wait behind OP for an extra 30 seconds

I don't understand. Y'all ordered in different lanes? How was it determined that he "ordered first" (like, was it clearly much sooner?) and how would you jump in front of him if so? If you moved behind the car that came out of his lane, I would guess it would be your "turn" to go. I would also guess it's all basically a wash time-wise, so it seems like a stupid thing for anyone to get upset about either way.

Whoever orders first should go first, but it doesn't really matter. Often the team member will direct you to follow _____ colored vehicle for that purpose. But people are generally polite and orderly so the zipper merge happens anyway.

That’s been my experience. But with this gentleman, who I will admit was of a persuasion not typically targeted by Chick Fil A, I didn’t notice him until he was laying on his horn near the bed of my truck and hanging out the window. It definitely was not his pleasure today.

If Popeye's tried to go to a two lane drive thru then I'm pretty sure the universe would implode upon itself or some other type of apocalyptic event would occur.

That's how much they f-up customer service.

Yes, this is correct. First a car from one line, then the other and so on, regardless of who ordered first.

Most Chick Fil A drive thrus will in fact tell you what car to get behind to avoid situations such as this but that is usually when the workers are outside taking orders.
