worked for a company in Laffy who had built their main office building during the oil boom. It had a big arse atrium in the center with fountains and plants. really extravagant. they were leasing it to another company and had us in a small lab building next door to it.

ot really much Mexican about it though was a happening stop on the happy hour circuit back in the day
From what I hear, Tampico use to be another one of the hot spots. Newly minted millionaires routinely announcing a round for everyone on them.

about the man who chartered an eight-passenger Lear jet for $800 an hour to go to lunch.
I wish it was still $800 an hour for a Learjet

Lafayette is the most pretentious city in Louisiana for a reason.
Yes, and the most cookie cutter, homogenized city in the state. It is as if they all have to wear and do the same thing as everyone else ??.

Imagine how insufferable Reds was back then
Everybody (who was anybody) belonged to Reds. Also to Oakbourne, City Club, Town House and Petroleum Club.
You sent your kids to ESA or St. Thomas More.

I work in this building today
Where is that building located? I think I might have worked in it.

There is no great Mexican food in Lafayette

Hard to believe the us had 4000 + rigs running at one point in the 80’s. I’ve heard all the stories but just can’t imagine how wild the ride was as an oil and gas operator during those times.

Smallest city with a Ferrari dealership. Grant Street dance hall used to be fun.

Who remembers Lafayette before the bottom fell out? If so, pls share your experiences.
Dad owned a restaurant, when it fell out so did other businesses, his included, we packed up and left.

remember most heading to Atlanta to work in the construction industry. That Uerl went bust fast.
Something like 74% of the people that left Louisiana then went to Atlanta.
We did.

There was a Ferrari dealer in Lafayette? That’s crazy.

I see around here(DFW,) are PHI birds
PHI Air Medical is keeping them afloat. Lots of bases in Texas and SW. I used to work for the sim company in Laffy. Got let go last year during Covid and negative 20 dollar oil. Never looking back to aviation and dreaming again. Pipe dream. I just hope Lafayette’s leadership keeps encouraging diversification. We all know leadership in BR and NOLA isn’t.
Call me crazy but Lafayette could be positioned to be the fastest growing and go to city in the state if they play their cards right.

Porche down Johnston street but no Ferrari to my knowledge.
Would have been some parked at reds if that was the case and I never saw any.
Suggestions were subtle, book an elk hunt and a new rifle was dropped off. The shite built and charged off was an everyday occurrence. We had a shell toolpusher that picked his glenlivet up on crew change day at our office
Party all day and finish up at Chez Pastor for more drinks and supper.

Way to think big
You consider Baton Rouge and New Orleans as big?
Both are on the decline at a much faster rate than Lafayette.

Didn’t Red have a lambo or 2 in the 90’s?
Don’t know if he still has one but he was into fancy cars

This is like the most conventional wisdom point ever.
I must be one of the biggest oddballs in the world because I love the food there. I think it's one of the best old school type Mexican restaurants in the state. I prefer it to anything in New Orleans. And I'm not into the whole Lafayette "scene" of the place at all.
it is because they do a few things really well and they never change
the fried chicken lunch special on saturday is fantastic
we used to go to lafonda’s before we would go out, sometimes we never made it out
I dont remember a Ferrari dealership, but there was a BMW, Benz, Volvo and Porsche dealership
Lafayette is pretty stable and economically diverse now. i remember growing up with kids whose parents were executives in major oil companies, their jobs moved to Houston and sometimes so did they
