As a kid in the 50s to 60s, life was totally outside. There was hardly a fat kid around, very few, if any. Still, fun stuff was endless.

That's because there wasn't a McDonald's, Wendy's, Chic-Fil-A, Popeye's, and whatever fast food joint is around on every block..

Wasn't like that in the 70's either...

based on what?

Think its fair to say it depends on the kid(s). And that's applicable to every generation. Kids today may have access to more technology and information, but their critical thinking skills are arguably lacking from generations past.

I've seen an entire table of teenagers playing on their phone and not talking to each other at all at a sit down restaurant.

Sadly, there are times when I am with my friends and someone will point out that we are all on our phones. It's not just teenagers.

Kids back then used to play outside a whole lot more to make fun rather than sit inside on the Xbox and get fat. Growing up in the early 2000's, I played outside a lot with my friends despite the lazy options for entertainment available and I had a blast every single day.

1975-1989 This is exactly my age from 0-14. We played outside alot. However, young folks don't let us old Gen Xers fool you. Even us poor kids had things like Atari 2600/5200 in early 80s and Sega/Nintendo around 86. That said, I was a bean pole runner/football player and was never remotely overweight until my 30s.

I know I stayed up countless nights and entire holidays on a few games in the 80s

Vanguard. I broke my controller over this game. It cheated!

Hero. One of the best games ever made.

Then I got the Sega Master System for Xmas of 86.
Rambo ruined my Xmas Holidays because it CHEATED.

And this here Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System is one of the best RPGs ever. Took about 80 hrs to win and helped me not get a girlfriend in 1988. Fun fact: I called a 1800 number Silicon Valley to request a game guide be mailed to me to help me beat the final boss, DarkFalls. Only needed it b/c He CHEATED every time!

When I was a kid, I lived outside of Folsom. In the summer, I would get up, eat my pop tarts, and out the door I'd go. They wouldnt see me again until the sun went down. Fishing, swimming in river, shooting turtles and water moccasins in the big pond, riding horses, no one bothered me and my friends. We didnt know what a video game was.

agree. We had a blast. Playing neighborhood sports, riding bikes for miles, played in ditches, built forts, snowball fights. Somebody's father built us a treehouse

Kids still do all this

remember my mom locking the door behind me when I went out to play during the summer. I was allowed back in the house for lunch, and when it got dark. If I was thirsty, I would drink from the hose. I was 7, and I owned the world. I don't think kids are allowed to grow up like that anymore.

I have 4 kids, literally mine and all their friend’s parents still do this and they all play outside till dark. Both my jobs require me out in the public quite a bit, kids are outside till dark or later just like we were. Adults are just glued to their phones too much to realize it.

I guess everyone sees things differently but for instance wife and I went to eat a few weeks ago. While at the bar waiting on a table, there was a packed table with 3-4 teenage girls and 4-5 adults. The only ones staring at their phones the entire time were the adults.

This. My son is 12 and even though we are living in the burbs, he is still outside a lot. He has a nice pellet gun and loves to shoot birds. Sets traps to catch birds and rats. Loves going fishing and setting crab traps. Loves being on his bike.
Not a single friend or kid he plays sports with is fat. They spend too much time running to be fat.

What's this snow ball you speak of. Down her we had dirt clod wars with crawfish mounds.

Yep, same here. Also for the “parents don’t spank their kids anymore” crowd. I’ve seen several arse beatings in just the last couple weeks by parents. 2 at the store, one at a house I was doing a windshield job on, and saw a 4 y/o get his arse swatted and taken outside by his dad for having a temper tantrum at chic fil a. I know he was 4 b/c dad said it while spanking him, about a 4 y/o shouldn’t act like this
