Likely the fault of some dipshit cutting off the 18 wheeler who cant slow down fast enough and then swerves.
18 wheeler drivers drive like bigger assholes than regular drivers

They do have yearly safety meetings, classes, inspections, etc. Very detailed and documented because they are regulated by DOT. But if you look at stats you’ll see it’s not the driver of the 18 wheeler most times, it’s the jackasses driving the Nissans and Chevys.

That looks like something you’d normally just walk away from. Wonder if he had a seatbelt on.

Alot of what many say here about 4 wheel drivers are true but we do have our idiots in the transportation industry also.

watch "Bonehead Truckers" on YT.
He normally posts videos on Wednesdays showing "the stupid things we (truck drivers) do" on the road, at truck stops etc.
On Fridays it's "Four Wheeler Friday" showing idiot car drivers...
Some of his voice-overs are annoying though..

I gotta trucker question. Is it my imagination or have I been seeing OTR drivers(usually the safest) driving faster than they did a few years ago.
I'm not talking 5mph over 65 or anything. I have noticed several times a truck doing just over 80mph.
1. 2021 outside of Birmingham.
2. 2023 I-12 between Hammond and Slidell
3. 2023 and 2024 on I-10 between Gulf Shores exit and Tallahassee.
I remember these incidents well b/c how fast these trucks were hauling arse.
I figured they were monitored if not governed. Are they independent maybe?

Depends on the trucking company and their insurance company. If they were going that fast they were most likely independent or a small trucking company.

Imagine how much safer Louisiana roads would be if they made this mandatory on every white pickup truck.

And then the idiot got mad at the 18 wheeler and tried brake checking him.
That is a fantastic way to FAFO and have the truck's front bumper sharing the driver's seat with you.

That’s really sad. One minute you are just driving along and the next minute you are dead…

quote:Seriously though, just listen to how they phrase these accidents - its made to make you think the truck driver caused it. I was hit by a SUV that spun out on ice right outside of Portland on I-84, media reported it as "accident involving a truck driver". Fact was I had slowed down for the bad conditions, kept my lane, and was being safe. The driver who passed me was doing 75 in a 60 in a snowstorm. Dashcam absolved me of all responsibility but the local media that reported it insinuating my fault wouldn't run another story of what ACTUALLY happened.
Thanks. The media should be more clear.

quote:Owner operators generally do not have governed speeds because they're small companies and paid by the load. All of your larger companies (Swift, Prime, JB Hunt, CR England, Western Express) are all governed at 65. Some larger carriers govern 68, 70, 72. I'm governed at 68, and quite frankly that's fast enough for me. I have zero desire to keep up with moving traffic because that's generally when people do stupid shite like cutting me off to get to their next exit instead of just merging behind.

I've been doing this for 13 years now. I have no desire to be a super trucker - i just want to get work done and go home like everyone else.

Michigan State statisticians went over crash data a few years ago and found that over 85% of those accidents were not the fault of the truck driver.
We now have dash cams in our trucks. You really dont know how much those cameras saved our arses in court every time we get sued.

Where’s the trailer? That’s a bobtail (tractor no trailer) that appears to have lost control. If the driver was restrained, no way he’s ejected.

I wish there was some feasible way regular cars/drivers didn’t have to share the same roadways with 18-wheelers.
I get a little nervous every time I’m next to or close to an 18-wheeler

He was ejected and went over the rails. Horrible stuff.....

I find that most bad driving from truckers comes from what looks like small operators. But having one going 65 passing one going 64 sort of irritates me. But I think that a lot of people don’t realize how long it takes to stop a truck.

BRPD's original picture on Facebook included the driver's body. They altered the photo immediately after and cropped him out of it. Long fall to his death. On another note, I believe it's a Federal law that truck drivers wear their seatbelt. He should be sitting in a hospital somewhere getting checked out, but instead he's going into a coffin.
