Homes are being evacuated in White Castle after a train hit an 18-wheeler carrying butane.

This changes my route for driving to Grand isle slightly.

WHITE CASTLE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities are on the scene of a crash in which a train hit an 18-wheeler.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office reported it happened near the intersection of LA 69 (Bowie Street) and LA 1 in White Castle.

The White Castle Police Department is handling the investigation into the crash and Louisiana State Police is assisting. There are no reported injuries.

The tanker part of the big rig is not leaking, according to the sheriff's office. It is carrying butane. The truck is leaking some diesel. HAZMAT is on the scene and will decide whether the butane needs to be offloaded to another tanker.

Highway 69 is shut down for now until the wreck clears.

The human brain is not used to something that big moving so fast and misunderestimates the speed. It's science.

Never bring a truck to a train fight...

First rule we learn in driver's ed... "Trains have the right of way"....

Clearly the train’s fault.

It’s never the truck driver’s fault.

There used to be a set of old style sequential little billboards on Hwy 71 around Lebeau that read:

Remember this

If you'd be spared

Trains don't whistle

Because they're scared

It sure isn't the trains fault. Cargo hauls, school buses, etc are required by law to stop at crossings before they can proceed.
