I treated my parents house like a hotel when I was that age. MOST of us grow up and realize we were being selfish jack asses by the time we reach 22. My oldest moved out at 18...3 years later he's starting to act like the responsible, respectful person that I'd hoped he'd become. It just takes time for some.

GPA in JuCo? Well, I guess we shouldn't even be surprised.

I think you're confusing buying him stuff with getting him to respect you. Duress not, many parents fall into this same trap. Just have to let the chips fall where they may now.

he was duck hunting and got back at 5 pm instead of for brunch.
When you jumped on him for getting home at 5 instead of brunch he shrugged it off and said, lighten the f up.
Is that your problem?

Our son gave us fits. Tried college, nope. Came home, dinked around. Joined USAF, resulted in a very fine young man and remains so to this day.

you were never an 18-19 year old son? I always figured you were a dude

I popped off to my old man when I was 17 and he punched me once through a closet door, looked down at me and said now get up and fix it. And I looked at him, said yes sir, got up and became a finish carpenter immediately.

I was not a disrespectful, ungrateful 18-19 year old son. I was brought up better.

As are my kids.

Texted him at 9:30, said great hunt.. be home, you have stuff to do..then figured it would happen till I left work and realized he wasn't home and nothing had been done.. that's when I went ballistic

Sorry bro . Keep your temper in check . Do NOT become too attached to your anger and judgement . Focus as hard as you can on maintaining your Zen and putting his ingratitude and selfishness in a box and put it away. He’s just not where he’s going to be in a decade - it’s a process of maturity.

He will try your patience while he finds his place in the world....just give it time and some space and he will eventually work it all out. most of us did the same shite.
