So social distancing dictates we must completely shut down the service industry? Or the hobby industry? Or the brick and mortar retail industry?

No, I didn't. I just don't understand how it's been steadily rising with all the news of the unemployment numbers and other economic turmoil. Makes no sense to me.
The Dow isn't an economic health index.

They just need to grind it out getting that $600+/week from tax payers

Self-inflicted recession. Exceptional.

You know, kinda like tens of millions due to their decisions.
nah
Remember when the government was shut down the media presented it as a apocalyptic crisis.

Remember that universal living wage everyone was raising hell about? That $600/week is $15/hr. That's well above the average pay in many states and in many industries. All you have to do is say you're scared, go home, and collect close to $800/week. The Federal gov't has entered the job market and is paying MORE for people to do LESS than their current employer in many cases.
Honestly, I can't believe that this number isn't higher.
And it’s got a lot of service industry business owners scared shitless. Turnover hasn’t been too high because the benefits haven’t started yet.
Had a long conversation with a housekeeping vendor this week and he is expecting a lot of “I’m scared for my safety” claims if the benefits do start next week.

2 more weeks.

Scruffy, it’s just yours and my money and livelihood. Why do you like your hard earned money and livelihood so much?

Way more concerned about how this will harm the millions of other Americans and what kind of long term impact this could have on America.

A few more weeks. People need to grind it out.
I found that somewhat encouraging. That is about the level of the great Recession not the Great Depression. If we can open this back up by May I think we'll be fine. Some industries like travel, hospitality, logging will still feel the pain but we can climb out of this.

You’re just greedy for wanting to support yourself. We’re two weeks behind Italy!

The market is forward looking, it and it's rich crony overlords aren't gonna wait for everyone to get back to work to go up. That's not how they stay rich.

Scruffy, I’m being idiotically sarcastic. I know what you’re worried about, as am I

I don't think long term is the concern. IMO it's the short term. A lot of businesses will never reopen, but others will take their places. The ones that do reopen quickly after this passes will see a huge boom, especially in the hospitality industry as people who have been trapped at home will be flocking to social interaction.
I think in the long term you see more companies sticking with remote work/WFH set ups. Major cities with traffic problems will surely take a good hard look at throwing some incentives at companies to do so in order to cut down traffic. It's been a dream driving around town during all of this. That isn't going unnoticed.

god I hope so
I haven't missed any deadline or fallen behind on any projects the last 3 weeks AND I don't have to drive an hour to the office everyday?
They could save a lot of money by letting me stay at home and not paying for a company truck and gas.

Dow is future-priced. We are getting close to back to normal, and there is going to be a lot of pent up demand. Especially since a lot of people will end up, in the long run, being made whole due to all this government cheddar being dropped out the helicopter.
