Grant was great in Hell On Wheels.

I somehow missed the hundreds of statues and monuments in England dedicated to people who rebelled against them.

The following presidents have statues in England:
George Washington
Abraham Lincoln
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower
Ronald Wilson Reagan
John Fitzgerald “Jack” Kennedy
Plaques/memorials in the UK of Founding Fathers
Ben Franklin
John Witherspoon
Thomas Payne's cottage and statue

I'm familiar with his surrender.

The greatest of them all was Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Most believe the war would have been over in months.
I know you realize this , but the problem with this viewpoint is that Grant took over a demoralized Union army halfway through the war, while Lee owned his whole campaign from the start. Grant also very well may have won in a few months had he been General from the onset. Would Lee have realized sooner he was fighting a lost war with better leadership from the Union army? One of the most interesting parts of the Civil War was the ebb and flow of changing tactics and introduction of new war machines.

The Union didn't start the fighting.
Another fact lost on most. The first shots in the war were fired on Fort Sumter, proudly flying the Stars and Stripes. I respect the military history of the war and believe that the sites and history should be preserved, but cannot understand why people would still fly a "Confederate flag" in their yard.

Don't think Grant would have been ready to be in charge of the entire army from the get go. He was considered somewhat of an outcast and it took some political pull for him to even climb the ranks early in the war.

Agree, but hypothetical is hypothetical

C'mon Lee is so honorable that once it became clear that the people teaching the South how to manufacture AK-47s to win the war (and heart pills), were really time traveling white supremacists, he took the fight to them and fixed the timeline.
Man is a saint.
I got this and laughed. Wonder how many else will?

All very good points

That’s more along the lines how I think, especially as I’ve gotten older. I’ve had way more ancestors fight and die under the American flag than the confederate one.

I think people are missing one real big point in this debate...Andrew Johnson was a piece of shite that caused the south to be held back economically for over a decade after the war.

Grant was a drunk and struggled to take Vicksburg being held by starving confederates. He already vastly outnumbered them and still kept asking for even more troops. He was also a backstabber according to many people of the day.
This is completely untrue. Grant had minor alcohol issues before the war and serious alcohol issues after the war, but minus a few hiccups he didn't drink throughout the war. Most of the tales of Grant being a drunkard during the war are from those who were politically motivated against Grant.

He definitely had some adversaries during the war. I’d imagine people may have made up things about his drinking to bring him down. But there were some close allies to him that talked about some heavy drinking of him during the war. Albeit it may have been after a victory or during a siege, etc
Again, if I was in his shoes I’d wanna drink a lot.

By the time Grant took over the fight against Lee, there wasn't much of a Confederacy left for Lee to defend.

What?
I think you mean to direct your anger at the Republicans in Congress, not Andrew Johnson. Andrew Johnson was proving to be softer on the South than Congress.

It's basically just displaying a participation trophy.

No there weren't.
And he wasn't known as a back stabber. In fact, he was heart broken to find out so many he considered friends were doing it to him.

Because Grant crushed it.
He destroyed the other two Confederate armies, leaving only NVA left.
People seem to forget, Lee only commanded a third of the Confederate troops and was responsible for one campaign.
Grant won three different campaigns.
