NEW YORK — Fifteen children, many of whom had the coronavirus, have recently been hospitalized in New York City with a mysterious syndrome that doctors do not yet fully understand but that has also been reported in several European countries, health officials announced Monday night.
Many of the children, ages 2 to 15, have shown symptoms associated with toxic shock or Kawasaki disease, a rare illness in children that involves inflammation of the blood vessels, including coronary arteries, the city’s health department said.
None of the New York City patients with the syndrome have died, according to a bulletin from the health department, which describes the illness as a “multisystem inflammatory syndrome potentially associated with COVID-19.”
The syndrome has received growing attention in recent weeks as cases began appearing in European countries hit hard by the coronavirus.
“There are some recent rare descriptions of children in some European countries that have had this inflammatory syndrome, which is similar to the Kawasaki syndrome, but it seems to be very rare,” Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, a World Health Organization scientist, said at a news briefing last week.

Kawasaki‘s gives young people nasty nasty looking coronaries. Most people under 40 have very smooth coronaries, like a water hose. Those with Kawasaki‘s are always enlarged and bulbous looking, lumpy and bumpy, prone to thrombus.
Kawasaki’s disease is an auto immune disorder, but is largely genetic.

This is clickbait, and so is your title.
Viruses sometimes cause inflammatory reactions in children(such as Kawasaki disease and others)
Like the article even states, it’s very rare, and it’s not unique at all to covid. It is associated with viruses in general . Which is why some of the 15 children didnt test positive for covid, because their condition was likely brought on by another virus.....
CNN actually did an unbiased non-clickbait article on this surprisingly

Kawasaki disease itself is often preceded by a respiratory or gastrointestinal illness," Segal, who works in Child Neurology at Stanford Children's Hospital, said. "This has been known about Kawasaki disease for quite some time. No one completely understands it, but the model suggests it's triggered by an infection in a sort of immune dysregulation."
Segal doesn't believe they have seen any other cases of Kawasaki associated with coronavirus at his hospital and he thinks that if this is a complication associated with the coronavirus that is most likely uncommon
"I don't, though, think we are going to see a wave of these cases," Segal said. "This isn't something that families, even if they have coronavirus really need to worry about, based on what we know so far."
